Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hi, Just decided on trying this diet (have failed miserably on others) I haven't calorie counted for ages and wondered which app others considered the most useful, preferably a UK based app. Also does anyone have any tips for someone like myself with under active thyroid , currently on 125g medication.[[ is it best to split fasting days or do 2 together. Thanks
I think most of us use either My Fitness Pal or My Fat Secret. Both have phone apps as well so you can update anywhere. I use Fat Secret and it is a bit American in style but the database gets bigger every day and there are lots of UK supermarkets on there now. It does the job for me. :-)
I agree with Miffy, I use My Fitness Pal because it has a great database of UK supermarket foods, it is also compatible with my FitBit (activity monitor)
About your other questions - consecutive day Fasts seem to be difficult ( not tried to do it but don;t fancy the idea) and there is a lot of info on her about thyroid issues, which I have not read as it isn't a problem for me,
Aside from that welcome to 5:2 :) the posts on this forum seem to cover everything and anything :like:
I use Live Strong (livestrong.com). I like it because you can create and publish recipes as well as just look up calorie information.
Sorry, missed the bit about back to back fasts. I find I need at least two days between or I feel a bit odd. I seem to be doing every third day rather fasting on two set days. I set out doing Mondays as a regular day but recently found I prefer Sunday. Strange, I know, when its Sunday lunch but I'm so busy on Sundays with family stuff I can get right through to late afternoon, when we normally eat, without a thought. By the time I've got it all dished up I just don't have the inclination to eat much. Its all about trying different arrangements and picking what fits for you.
I use MyFitness Pal as you can scan barcodes on packets and its so much easier!
I use My Fitness Pal. It's free and works well, allowing you to keep track of exercise- including things like gardening - so you don't just focus on calories. Do check when you look things up though as sometimes there are alternative versions of the same item but you can usually work out which is accurate. I use it on iPhone and iPad and it synchs easily. Pretty good data including international things.
