New and looooong way to go!!!
15 Apr 2013, 09:03
Hello!!!

I have 5 stone to loose, but I cannot think of it like that or I'll give up. I'm on my second week and I am very dubious about how this is going to work. I've done loads of diets and I'm usually successful but then pile it all back on plus more each time, I swear if I hadn't have joined ww when I was 16 I wouldn't be in this mess! Anyway, I found the fast days fine and although a little hungry it wasn't a major issue. The weekend I have eaten normally for me which I know could be wrong as this is how I got in this state. However I thought I would see how and if it would work with me being relaxed at first. After my tues/thurs fast days last week I weighed in on Friday and had lost 4lbs, now I know that was water so weighed this morning (I know I shouldn't but have issues!!) Put 2lb back on...I have a couple of questions.... :?:

When is the best time to weigh?
Won't you put back on when feeding what you have lost after fasting?
How many of you have lost big amounts of weight?

I'm doing this for my health and well as my vanity just really hope it works.
Hi and welcome....I weigh once a month that way I don't obsess about it, as to feed days well don't go over the tdee if you can help it, look at the progress charts to see who has lost what.

Like yourself I also have alot to lose....good luck :)
I'm in the same boat - 5 stone to lose. I decided to break it up into 7lb sections, so my first goal is not so far away. I think I'll treat myself in some way so I've got something to look forward to.
I am going to weigh myself every Sunday morning, and on the first Sunday of every month I'll also find my BMI (scary at the moment) and measure my waist (equally scary!). My ultimate goal is to get down to a healthy BMI.
I also lost 4lb last week (my first) but have resisted weighing myself again as I know a lot of that is water. I'll just wait till Sunday.

Good luck!
Hi, welcome to what I have found the easiest diet in the world! I too had 5 stone to lose when I started in January, I too was sceptical but vowed to do a month and see. I'm now on week 15 and have lost 17lbs! Yey! I have eaten what's normal for me (far too much) on normal days as I decided to properly test it and I also assumed as I get lighter I may need to tweak and wanted somewhere to go when I plateau! It works, but the scales do go up and down a lot, try to focus on overall loss and consider lb a week to be what you're aiming at (seems to be the trend), this means with your first week you are 3 weeks ahead so even if it goes up one week you are winning the battle! This way of thinking has worked for me and the first stone off was a real motivator! I haven't felt denied and manage the fast days easily now. After a fast day yes the scales drop and then creep back up on normal days, but overall it works! I weigh on a Monday morning and fast Monday/Thursday, not the best time for the lowest weight, I find Wednesday is my lowest weight day, but I feel I get a more realistic view of my weight loss this way, but weigh whenever you like just be consistent! As for health benefits, who knows, but I do know losing this excess weight is a health benefit on it's own! I no longer fear chairs with arms! Good luck and stick with it! I look forward to seeing how it works out for you!
Firstly ...welcome maccy !
I am a serial dieter...like you been dieting all my adult life!
At the begining of Feb I embarked on yet another of my strictly controlled calorie counting diets and lost 7lbs in 2 weeks...gooood lol...but I knew I wasnt going to stay on it long term ( way too restrictive and it wasnt changing the way I thought about food or my relationship with food)and I knew that the moment I stopped I would put it back on!
My brother(who is in the medical profession and whos opinion I value) was home visiting our elderly mum and casually mentioned 5:2 and the horizon prog... I hadnt seen the horizon prog (still havent!)
I went out the next day bought the book...read it...and started 5:2 the following day
I am loosing weight at the average (1 lb-1 1/2 lbs per week) In all I have 1st 5lbs off since begining of Feb
Havent set myself a final target...know I want at least another 2 st off ...then see how I feel about me?
So what is so different about this WOL instead of 'diets'
My whole relationship with food has changed
I only count calories on my fast days
I have dropped the guilt....if I want a piece of chocolate wotever I have it and dont feel as if I have 'blown' everything and may as well give up!!!
I now know when Im hungry!!!...If Im hungry I have something to eat...if Im not...I dont
I dont feel deprived !!!!
I weigh once a week on a Monday morning before I start my fast and that is my 'weight' for that week....yes it fluctuates during the week I can sometimes be 4 lbs down during the week...but what the scales say on Monday morning is all that I count...and Im not disappointed if on Monday I have 1 lb off instead of 4 ....our weight will vary during the week due to loads of things!
so....chose one day in the week...or in the month....and stick to that
This is a Way of Life...not a diet or a quick fix...and I love it because of that ...3 months down the line I have a better relationship with food, have 1st 5 lbs off all together (started at 14:1 .. this morning 12 :10) ...if I was on the 'diets' I have been on in the past I would have given up by now and be on the road to regaining my weight loss!!!
Hi, Such a familiar story - you have always regained the weight you worked so hard to lose.. me too, and that is why I have so much more faith in this WOE (way of eating). It is so marvellous not to have to agonize every single day about restricted foods, just get your fast days done as best you can - trial and error with lots of helpful advice on this forum about how other people manage - and the other FIVE days be sure to eat what you like (not as much as you like) I find it very liberating and although most people don't lose rapidly it really is steady. I just keep telling myself it took me many years to gain all this fat and Rome wasn't built in a day!
I have health issues, heart , thyroid and blood pressure which I hope will improve as the weight goes. Good luck and if you need support or advice or just want to chat pop in here  :clover:

Hi & welcome maccy!

Just a few quick answers for you as I've got to do some work today :(

1. Try to weigh weekly (or less often!) on the same day of the week around the same time of day. I weigh on Friday mornings, which is the day after my second fast - before I have breakfast & after I've been too the loo!

2. Unless you vastly overeat on your feed days compared with normal, you shouldn't regain all the fasted weight loss. The fast days give you a calorie deficit over the week of around 3000 calories, which equates to around a pound of fat lost. If you ate that much extra over the course of your feed days, you would only maintain and if you ate loads more on top of that you would probably gain.

3. Quite a few of us have lost a large amount of weight. I've been doing this since August last year and have so far lost almost 40lbs. It's slowed down somewhat now, but then I've also relaxed my feed day habits a bit too - I'm just glad the trend is still downward, I'm nearly in the healthy BMI range and I still eat all my fave foods most of the time :D
Wow...thanks for the lovely welcome and the very positive experiences...I said to my husband on the weekend who is also following with me, I really hope this works cause it's so easy....I added up my calories on my non fast day and it was around 1500 so that's not bad at all. I'm gonna keep going as unlike every other diet I have done you don't have to STOP this could be the change in my life I have been waiting for!!! Great weight losses too...I'm impressed!!! Fingers crossed I can follow you all! xxxx
