Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

New and loving 5:2!!
15 Apr 2013, 13:09
Hello I'm a working Mum of 3, watched the Horizon programme last year, and decided to give 5:2 a go on the 2nd February 2013 (dieting far too depressing in January).

Well what can I say... it's brilliant and I love it! I have previously tried Weightwatchers, Slimming World, Atkins etc and always lost weight but regained but this time I am really optimistic - the key being that I've just come back from an Easter week break in an all inclusive resort and only put 1 lb back on from a half stone weight loss altogether!! (and that was with booze and baklava every night!)

My two days are Monday and Thursday (works best when I'm at work) and have found the key to avoiding sleepless nights and headaches is to not eat breakfast, drink LOADS of herbal teas (esp. Lemon & Ginger & Mint) and then kick off at lunchtime with a cup-a-soup and rivita. Then loads of water in the afternoon with a tea of chicken or trout/salmon fillet and lots of vegetables (often cooked in a foil parcel). I weigh myself on the Wii every Saturday morning before breakfast as it can be a bit up and down before then, but genuinely bowled over by the results.

Would love to hear how other's are getting on and how long I can expect the weightloss to continue? Still not quite back at non overweight BMI but not far to go now...

Hi Madge & welcome! Thanks for such a great first post, sounds like you're doing really well.

The weight loss should continue a good while yet, although it may eventually slow down. I've been doing this since August and have averaged at about 1lb a week loss, though there have been weeks with more and weeks with less - and lately it's been less than 1lb a week (with an occasional maintain). It's all good though - slow and steady wins the race, and I still eat all my favourite foods!
