Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

My whole family's doing this, so I might as well join too.

I'm jumping in with a fast day today. We have several books on 5:2, and truly, it's a no-brainer. Still, the books are very helpful. I want to do this properly, and I love reading about the science behind it all.

Lots of tea and soymilk for me today, plus a few extras to equal 500 calories.

I am very glad to finally be joining.

Go for it! I've been doing this for 2 weeks now and have lost 4lbs!! I found the fast days easier than I thought I would - I couldn't imagine eating so little but it's ok. The key I think is not to go overboard on the other 5 days and keep actice
All the best :)

Ooh I'm quite jealous that you have a whole family around you doing this! My husband and my dad are very supportive, but neither made it past day one themselves! Best wishes for your fasting journey!

Thanks Red. What's really great is that my husband is doing it with me. Makes cooking so much easier - in fact there's now NO cooking on fast days - ha ha! Love it!

This is my 3rd fast and today my husband ate the same food as I did (albeit in larger quantities). I told him a couple of days ago that I was following the 5:2 plan and he was a bit worried about the 500 calorie allowance on the fast days BUT I have just told him I have completed a fast day today and he can't believe it because he was worried that it would mean I would be eating different food to him!

That's great Nav. We're just going to keep it simple - lots of tea and milk all day and protein drinks. We both know from experience, once we start eating, it's hard to stop, so this will work for us. Also, after a lifetime of cooking, I honestly just don't like it anymore...so this works! On our Feed Days, we'll just keep it simple like we do now with prepared foods, eating out, simple stuff.

What's so great about this way of eating is that it can be individualized to anyone's way of eating.
