If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hello,

I started the 5:2 plan on April 1 (fasted that day). By April 9 I had lost 2.8lbs, but since then I've gained a little after each fast. I don't feel that I've gone too crazy with calories on feed days, although I do tend to indulge a bit on Saturdays. The initial loss was motivating, but now I'm losing steam. Any advice for a newbie?

Thanks,

Rhonda in Tucson, AZ USA
It hasn't even been three weeks yet! Just try sticking with it for a couple of months and get the hang of it.

If you want, you can always count your calories on feed days to make sure you're not going overboard. If you google "calculate TDEE" you can figure out how many calories you are supposed to be eating on a feed day to maintain.

But you haven't even been doing this for three weeks yet. Don't give up and give it a proper try :-)
Tracieknits,

Thanks for the encouragement. I tend to want immediate gratification so taking time to let things work can be a challenge. I was wondering what number we were supposed to use from the TDEE (the calculator I used offered counts for Maintenence, Fat Loss, and Extreme Fat Loss), so now I know. Will hang in there a bit longer and see how it goes.
Congratulations on not giving up. I think it takes time for one's body to adjust. I don't believe it's just a simple calories in and calories out deal; the body kind of tries to maintain its weight in the face of our efforts. If you think about it, it would seem to have been an advantage in an evolutionary sense for the body to be able to do this.

However, I think that overall, if we're not going crazy on non-fast days, we will definitely lose weight with lots of small ups and downs along the way. But it isn't a short term thing. That's why I think of this WOE as a WOL--a pretty one!
I appreciate the support - thank you very much!
Hi, welcome to this woe! Keep at it, it can sometimes be slow bit it does work. I tend to find I plateau for 2 or 3 weeks at a time then suddenly drop a couple of pounds in one week, I suppose everyone loses at a different rate so stick with it! Good luck!
Hello Rhoda, like others are saying you need to give it a bit of time. Why not have a wee look at some of the progress charts that can be viewed under people's names and avatars? That'll give you an idea of how it's going for others. Also you can filter stats in the tracker to see what folk with the same kind of stats as you are doing.
