Nervous

Hi all,

I'm Miranda. Am thinking of starting the 5:2 diet tomorrow with my fast days being Sundays and Thursdays (though I'll see how that goes). Feeling quite nervous to be honest and not as excited as I thought I would be! Just nervous because I want it to work. I have a lot to lose as I am above 13 stone and very short.

I think it might be difficult because of the lack of support (my partner doesn't really believe I can do it and neither do my family, I don't feel comfortable talking about weight-stuff with my freinds) so will hopefully try and use this website that looks great instead.

Wish me luck. :)

x

I totally understand being nervous!! I had no idea what fasting would be like and I was rather scared. I have since learned it was nothing to be afraid of :-)

I don't use the word "fasting" when describing the diet to people. I just say there are two days where I eat only 500 calories. It seems to be a lot less off putting to people.

I hope you find the support you need on this forum!! Good luck :-)

Hi Miranda. There is no need to be nervous, I have done 3 fasts and the 3rd was a total breeze, stick with it, drink lots of water and keep busy. I am trying a fast tomorrow too as want to do 4:3 as I have 4 stone to lose. Its great that you have joined this forum as you will get all the support you need and everyday there is a fasting thread for support.

I agree that the word fasting makes people think you don't mean you will do it or it will work.

Good luck x

My advise is don't tell. No one knows I've done this except my husband and mum. Everyone else thinks its all been down to being good and exersise.

I just didn't want to face the It's dangerous, fad malarkey.

I've lost 21lb and nearly at goal and I can honestly say its been easy!

A diet thats easy! Never! But it truly is.
This forum is a brilliant support and all your questions can be answered so :clover: to you and keep updating.

You CAN do it. Tell yourself..... this is easy, and it is.

It really is "one day at a time" ...... seems to me I've heard that elsewhere!

How silly. Of course you can do it. It really isn't that hard. Two days a week, you simply eat a lot less food that usual. Start off with two meals on fast days. Eat scrambled eggs whites or else two hard boiled eggs in the morning. (You need the protein so you feel less hungry.) No snacking through day as it will only make you hungry. In the evening, eat a green salad or a pile of steamed vegetables. Why is that so impossible? Because it's not. Thousands of people are doing it and so can you.

You can do it, and you can prove all those doubters wrong. Sometimes well meaning loved ones can box us in with their view points of what we can and cant do. Dont let their fear stop you, it may be tough at first but not only will you show others, but more importantly prove to yourself. It is hard to believe at first cos we have all tried and failed in the past, but this woe of eating is different. I am only a few steps ahead of you 4th fast tomorrow, but already know that my life has changed. Good luck, stay strong x :clover:

Hi Miranda. Welcome to the first day of the new you! This group is great place to look. Lots of encouragement, help, and good advice. Have a good poke around and you can find most of the answers to your questions, or a thread discussing the issue. My husband is supportive but this site is great for answers. Some fasts will be easy, and some will be a struggle, have a play with formats and figure out what works for you. Best thing is 5 days where you dont have to obsess about counting, and eat differently to others at the table. Best part will be proving the doubters wrong. Keep in touch with posts and share how you get on.

I'm on my 5th fast tomorrow. I thought it would be really hard. It isn't. I do get ravenously hungry, but I have learned that the feeling passes. Just distract yourself. I have lost 2.6 kg after the first week and that spured me on through last week's fasts. Go, Miranda. You can do it and show those skeptics!

IT IS NOT SILLY TO FEEL NERVOUS!!!!!!!!!!!

Primary School Head Teacher talk.

Serendipity, the thing I found with 5:2 is it takes a few weeks to do it the right way for you.

You have to find out what way of eating best suits you to get through the days.

You will have to read up on here and try a few of the suggestions for yourself, 80% of them won't work for you, but some will, some you will work for a while and drop off, some will be invaluable.

Raw Carrots, Cucumber, Beetroot, Water and black coffee will get you through to Tea time, then try a 3 egg omlette with peppers onions mushrooms and garlic with a gurt big salad, you will struggle to get to 500 cals on that.

Good luck, honestly once you have cracked it, you will be forever without this fear of not eating, it's not that bad honest, and you will actually get to enjoy it, and I promise at some point you will have to force yourself to eat again on the day after the fast, that's how enjoyable it is!

I fully understand the nervous feeling, my OH is supportive but almost laughs at me with a here we go again sort of attitude, so other than him I've made the initial decision to be a secret 5:2 er, I have only been following this for 22 days and 6 fasts and it works! But still I'm nervous ..that little voice in my head saying its not going to work ..I liken being nervous about a way of eating to always feeling guilty as a mum .... Obviously its a state of mind thing and its thinking I need to change ..but keep looking at the posts on here ..I have found all the experiences and nerdy knowledge invaluable and dare I say I'm starting to believe its possible to achieve my goals. Good luck :clover:

Good morning Miranda, and welcome to your new way of eating!
Yes I understand about being nervous and wanting to keep it private- I think that lots of us feel the same. We're in it together!
I had three small meals on my first two fasts, but found that I'm not any hungrier with only drinks, so now save most of my calories for an evening meal. There are lots of different ways of doing it, you will find out what suits you! The most helpful thing though is to be busy, especially in the afternoon. That's when my tummy starts really rumbling!
There's so much help and support here - you're not doing it on your own.
Good luck for your first fast. :clover:
