New and first fast day. Eeeek
21 Apr 2013, 07:46
Hello all

I have just finished reading the 5:2 diet book and I am feeling hopeful. Since having the marina inserted I have been struggling to maintain or lose weight. I have put 1 stone on since my wedding in October. Let this be the start of the new me. I really want to wear the summer dresses I took on my honey moon this summer.

I have started training for a 5K run; I have been training 3 times this week and plan to train 3 times a week from now on. I am so desperate to lose weight I really don't feel myself at the moment.

So it's my first fast day, my meal plan is set out, I have my water bottle with me.... Bring it on!
............ Be gentle with my day! Please.............
Hello!! The first fast day isn't too bad and u feel so proud at bedtime that u made it! It's my 4th fast today of second week (lost 3.75 pounds in first week) and i feel great the second fast was really hard but by the 3rd I found it alot easier. Keep drinking that water and I found carrot and celery helped me!
Thank you for your advice. I will stock up on carrots lol.

Just a quick question. Do people exercise on fast days? I have chosen Sundays and Tuesdays as I tend to train wed, thurs fri. These are the days I'm not in university.
I have read a few posts that say exercise is particularly beneficial on fast days so I do try and do a longer dog walk when I'm fasting!
I think I may take the children to the park if the weather stays nice then! Please stay sunny!
Good plan!! It's lovely here too!
Hi Kat - you may actually find its easier to exercise on your fast days than on the day after a fast, depending what time of day you train and the timing of your meals. You'll probably need to experiment and find what works for you.

Personally, on fast days I don't eat until dinner time and I find it easy to exercise either first thing in the morning (which is what I'm used to doing anyway, on an empty stomach, and my performance is usually best that way) or sometimes at lunchtime. So far I've generally found it feels tougher to exercise the day after a fast day, especially first thing before breakfast. Tougher, but not impossible, mind you!

It will depend on your own goals and preferences, so just try out different times and days for your training and see what you prefer.
I tend to train in the morning after I take the children to school. I will play around with my fasting days. I'm not keen on exercising on an empty stomach I tend to feel more tired! I guess it's all about trail and error! Thanks Gamedamsel x
Hi Kat and welcome! The exercise you are doing as well as the 5:2 will pretty definitely result in weight loss. It has for me and the only exercise I do is walking.I don't exercise much on the fast days though. I reserve it for the other days when I eat more.
I hope so 12345678let, I am really naughty and eat too much chocolate. They way I see it is I don't drink alcohol or smoke or eat fried food so I can eat chocolate, which would be fine if it was a little bit. Once I start I can't stop till its gone. Although I do have half an Easter egg in the fridge that I'm saving for my treat tomorrow x I will be very proud if I don't eat it tonight.
Just completed my first week and found the fast days to be OK as long as I kept busy and drank a serious amount of sparkling water! I even managed a yoga class on my second fast day and found that fasting made no difference at all - I was still bad at it but didn't pass out.
As an experiment,I weighed myself at the start, then after 4 days to find I had lost 2 lbs. I will weigh again after the weekend's normal eating to see what the damage is.
As a 51 year old with silly cholesterol I have high hopes for this diet and love the simplicity of it.
Good luck everyone
Thank you for your reply. Iv done well so far but struggling with boredom eating iv took my self to bed to read! Please give me strength to get through the night!
My dogs insist that I walk them every day and I can' t say I have noticed any difference between days. I do around the same distance( about 40 minutes worth) flattish country walk.
Probably a couple of miles maybe a bit more
