Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

I just can't bear myself.

So, I had brekkie, porridge and a small mango at 9am

Going great guns till 5pm when I had a tofu stir fry. Sill in my calorie count, no probs. then I realised that I'd let a good friend down ( forgotten a significant anniversary) so I ate my way through 5 cubes of Turkish delight, a slice of toast and wine!!!!! Omg. Why do I do this??

Has anyone else mucked up their first fast day and how we're they able to come back from it?

I've decided that I'm not going to start again til next week when my guests have gone.

I feel rotten. I just can't face failing at another diet.

I was still v. Hungry after my stir fry though....ye gads :x
Whatever you do don't beat yourself up about it. Perhaps you should try to think about it differently, not as a 'diet' but as a different way of eating. You make the rules, you decide what's right for you. I wasn't 100% yesterday but the way I look at it I still ate a LOT less calories than I normally would have.

Be kind to yourself :)
Hi Tupelo, so what? It's just one day ;) don't give up just because you had a bit of chocolate, tomorrow's another day,
I completely forgot (honest ;) ) on one of my fast days, and was on my 2nd spritzer before I realised / remembered :? So I had another...(well they do say everything comes in threes) :D
and carried on the next day.....don't beat yourself up about it....good luck :)
Hey, Tupelo!

You haven't failed - you didn't achieve your goals, so you've just put it back a day or so. That's the beauty of this eating regime (it's not a diet) - it's so flexible.

If a friend had arrived with an Indian takeaway - you'd have said to yourself - 'OK, I'll move my fast day this week' and opened a bottle of wine for you both.

Don't beat yourself up about one day - you can do this!

Best wishes, B&W
I found this book helpful in the lack of control part of my food "battle".

But don't beat yourself up. This isn't another diet, it's a different way of eating. Learn about intermittent fasting as a whole as it's not really just about losing weight.
The great thing about 5:2 is its flexibility - fitting it around yourself to make it sustainable. If you need to change your days, it's not a problem. Life doesn't fit itself around your eating habits, so fit your eating habits around life :)
Today is my first day & it has been a very long day as I've been up since 0430am for work so stretching out 500 calories was tricky.. But from what I gather you can just fast another day that fits in better with your commitments.. So I wouldn't worry about it just try another day
There's always tomorrow. That's what I tell myself (especially regarding housework).
