Introduce Yourself!

Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

My Fitness Pal errors

Not sure if this has been said before but My Fitness Pal has quite a lot of errors and gives wrong information ,I just found this out and probably the reason I put on a pound this week, its a bit annoying but I now will need to double check calories

MFP's strength and weakness is its user supplied database of foods. It's best if you pick the ones where they have been confirmed by most people. Geenrally speaking the calories are ok but the carbs/protein/fats is less reliable.

I use the fat secret app to record calories, not sure if you are in the UK but it lists a lot of foods from here & appears to be fairly accurate though think it depends on people's in put.

Both MFP and the Fat Secret site tend to rely on user input for the data base. They do post disclaimers about the accuracy of the info. Thats why there can be duplicate entries with differing info. You do rely on the people who enter foods being literate enough to read labels correctly. Of course there's also the fact that we have know way of knowing when info was posted and manufacturers change recipes. Surely though, calorie counting isn't an exact science. Its just a tool, so as long as you stick with a regular counter, ( provided its not hundreds of cals out!) you should find your own working level.
