Sick on first fast day
23 Apr 2013, 05:18
I did my first fast day yesterday and vomited. I'm the kind of person that feels terrible when they don't eat but I thought I might as well give it a try. I thought maybe if I skip breakfast then the hunger wouldn't kick in so much. I had a bowl of soup for lunch and some blueberries and then another bowl of soup at tea time. I was feeling a bit unwell by the tea time but I thought it because I hadn't eaten so I forced down my second bowl of soup. Then I started feeling increasingly poorly and then about an hour after eating it all came back up again! Could this have been caused by the fasting or do you think it's a coincidence? I feel much better this morning, although I haven't tried to eat yet.

I would think it could be a coincidence but perhaps when/if you try it again restrict yourself to 800 cals spread over the day fairly evenly so you don't get so hungry. I used to get a bit shaky and light headed when I missed breakfast so I have only been able to do that in the last month (started in january).
I was driving yesterday morning and felt dizzy. My OH is diabetic so luckily there was a little tube of sugar in the car (always take one at coffee shops if they give it to us- handy for emergencies) and slurped that down (only 20 calls) and I was fine.

Och, Sioux , that is rotten. I hope you are feeling better now. I don't know if it has been fasting or maybe a wee bug or something. Anyway, I'm thinking that when you do your next fast when, not if ;)) you could maybe start with say 7-800 cals, split up to have wee things throughout the day. See how that goes, then reduce the calories to 6-700 still split up and keep going downwards until you get to the 500 . Generally, ease yourself into it gently, in a controlled manner. Do let us know how you get on

I would like to give it another go because until i started feeling sick it wasn't as unbearable as I thought it was going to be! Next time I will try eating a bit more, maybe it was just a massive shock to the system as I never skip breakfast and rarely go more than a couple of hours without eating.
