Someone told that chewing gum tricks your body into producing igf-1. Has anyone read anything about this?
If I feel hungry after dinner on fast days I often chew gum and it certainly helps me to get over that short hump till bed.
A couple of weeks ago, I wondered if something in the gum could be triggering the sinus attacks I keep having, and I stopped chewing it. Found I don't need it. (I work at home, so just brush my teeth before I head out anywhere, otherwise no-one but me to offend.) My sinus has cleared up, but don't know if it was the gum because I also started taking an antihistamine. Yep, bad science I'm happier to be crutch free though, and I'm sure that the most of the stuff in sugar free gum is pretty dodgy to have in your mouth regularly anyway.
I have also read that it produces gastric acid which can cause probs in the stomach if there is no food there.
