Katymay here to stay!

Hi there,

I am bowled over by the momentum this diet is gathering. It's great to see. I have not read one negative experience so far. I started this diet on Monday this week and am doing my second fast today.

I started on my first ever real weight loss journey about a year ago. I've had my kids, with the youngest now 20 mths old. My weight loss over the past 12 mths has been very stop/start. I'd managed to lose 15lbs until now, but was finding it hard to push on with the usual restricted calories to lose the last 15 lbs. My husband heard about this diet on the radio last year and I mistakenly believed it was a different doctor who produced the documentary (having never seen Horizon or Michael Mosley before - I'm an Aussie newly immigrated to the UK). So I was kind of sent on a merry detour for the past 3/4 mths reading other low-carb/paleo dietary advice until I googled intermittent fasting on the weekend and discovered Dr Mosely and watched the doco online and bought the Kindle book. And here we are! My husband has about another 20 lbs to lose as well, so we're both doing it together which is great.

I'm optimistic, and I'm excited. I'm 38yo female. 5'9" currently 168lbs. Aiming for 150lbs.

So far, so good. I feel OK on the fast days, although I'm still experimenting and tweaking how to spread my 500 calls. I did 250/250 on Tuesday but this morning I inadvertently gobbled up all my calls for brekkie (macadamia nuts, doh!). But I'm going to see how I fair going through till tomorrow morning before breaking my fast. If I have to cave, I've got strawberries to hand.

Anyway, keen to get on and explore this forum. Am hoping to find a lot of sound advice and encouragement!

Cheers,
Katy

Welcome Katymay! I think/hope you've come to the right place, lots of info here, good to start with the 'Short Answers' in FAQ board, then see what takes your fancy. People seem friendly too!

The momentum behind the 5:2 Fast Diet is amazing at the moment and this is by far the best place I know of for discussion about it.

Lots of views about how to spread the calories, it's what works for you - I now aim to have nada until my evening meal. There are even some enthusiasts here who prefer to have nothing (calorie-wise) all day! I think most people spread the calories over the day.

See you around!

Great, thanks Dominic. Actually, the notion of waiting until my evening meal appeals. Shall have to try this out next week.

See you :-)

Thanks Ursula,

I'm really experiencing that decreased appetite on the feed days, which is great. I'm still going to aim to eat roughly 1500-2000 calories on those days, which I don't think will be an issue. And yes, lots of water!

re decreased appetite on feed days: I wish! I have tended to find I eat a bit more on the day after a fast (just rewarding myself, I think) and then go back to a normal level. But maybe, just maybe, the lower intake mantra is beginning to get through at a more fundamental level...
