Here we go then....

Hi everyone, I am half way through reading Kate Harrison's book and although I missed the original Horizon programme I have read some other stuff about calorie restriction. I'm in my early 50's and must have tried every diet, faddy or otherwise, ever invented. Recently I gave up drinking alcohol and smoking and found that if it wasn't nailed down it was in my mouth! This has to stop. I have Type 2 Diabetes but don't take any meds and I want to get my blood sugar levels back to normal as well as losing weight. Like most sugar sensitive souls I carry my weight round my middle and am therefore first in the list of potential heart attack victims. Oh the joy! So even though I am half way thru the book I started my first fast today. So far, so mint tea. I have had one weight watchers meal at 231 calories. I have soup and another weight watchers meal planned for dinner. According to the calculations in Kate's book I can have 670 calories. (I am 14stone 3 lbs and 5ft 6) does that sound right? I did the calculation thing twice. I suppose I'm on the same spectrum as a bloke for calorie use. Anyway, enought burbling on. I shall start to read through all these posts now! :) x

Is this your first fast day? I am really hungry now! I am waiting till 6pm then having a bowl of soup (80cals) and a couple of scan thins 17 cals each! Then a weight watchers meal and a bag of mixed veg. How do you feel. I am a bit light headed but OK. I do quite a bit of walking with my dog and can't change that really. Do you think ready meals on fast days are the way to go? Any help appreciated! :) x

Personally I like eating a good volume of food - so I'm sticking to fruit & veg on my fast days. This is my first day of fasting WITH food... in the past I've tried complete fasts twice a week (24hours) but found that too difficult.

As for walking, I'm reading that lots of people find they have MORE energy on their fast days, not less, so some are even putting their hardest workouts on fast days for that reason... so shouldn't be too much of an issue once you get used to it, I think! :)
