A new me!
03 Feb 2013, 11:55
I have tried countless diets, some more successful than others but everyone of them has been a failure in the end as asking me to give up my favourite food for life is just plain mean! I am a foodie, always have been and always will be.

I have however noticed over the last year in particular that I am no longer controlling food but rather it is controlling me and that I am not comfortable with so after reading Mimi's article in the weeks Grazia I have decided to give the 5:2 a chance. From what I have read online so far it seems that not only are people losing weight but they are gaining control over their bodies and food!

One question I would like to ask though is on what day do you recommend people weigh themselves? I have been told in the past that weighing yourself once a week on the same day is the ideal and I can only assume on the 5:2 this would be best done on the morning of a Fast day (as I guess the morning after a fast day would show a higher loss?).

Thanks!

Welcome! Yes, I think the morning of a fast day is a great idea. Or maybe a morning two days after a fast day. But I would try to avoid weighing myself on the day after a fast.

I know what you mean about being a foodie. I had some pate on lovely bread last night, and I was thinking that any diet that wants me to say no to either one forever is just not feasible for me!

Your weight goes up and down anyway so just pick a day and stick to it. It's consistent downwards weights that would indicate a loss, rather than one stat.

Saying that I weigh myself 3 x a day as I'm fascinated by the changes I go through, magnified by a temperamental scales!

I want a curry if I get to 14 st and me and OH are having discussions about how to measure it as my weight fluctuates so much and he's tight so trying to put it off.

Welcome
I am also new to this & I have completed one week with two fasts so far. I fast on Monday & Friday and weigh on Sunday before my morning coffee & after going to the loo! I have been calorie counting with low GI & low fat for three weeks prior to starting 5:2 but have already noticed a change in my attitude to food. I am also a foodie & regard going out to dinner as a positive pleasure & I also like giving dinner parties & having others enjoy food with me. So a restrictive diet is emotionally distressing and although I am keeping to around 1400 to 1500 calories on feed days that gives me enough calories for treats so I don't feel deprived.
Good luck with the new way of eating.

Thanks everyone!

I feel like having a forum like this, along with the tracker is really going to go some way to help me on this journey.

I will be taking all your advise and hope I will have some positive stories to pass on soon! For now I think I will weigh myself once a week and see how I go.
