Hello, new and apprehensive

Hello

am new. This weekend my husband and I have decided to give 5:2 a go, him for health reasons (although he could do with losing a bit of weight too ;) ) and me for both. We are starting tomorrow. I am a bit worried whether I will manage to survive the day - I tend to snack on fruit to keep me going and feel faint if I skip a meal. As for my husband he is a right grump when he is hungry! So it will be a challenge I think! But I am excited too...

Oh I know what you mean! Hubby and I joined a few weeks ago :-)

I certainly understand about being nervous for your first fast. It's daunting! I found since I'm never truly hungry, I had no idea what to expect. In all honesty, it's a lot easier than I ever thought it would be, especially if I don't snack a lot. I look back on my first day, when I made a huge pot of low-calorie cabbage soup, intending to eat it all day long and stay near the couch in case I felt faint. Now I don't eat until 6:30 dinner in the evening, because I've found that eating a small amount makes it harder to control the hunger. If I don't eat until 6:30, it's no big deal. If I get hungry, I drink a glass of water or cup of black coffee and get busy with something - and the hunger goes away. In the afternoon, I'll have some bouillon or broth when my son has his after-school snack.

So good luck and hang in there!

I also decided to give this "diet" a go, although I hate the word "Diet" as it feels so faddy, I have read the fast diet book, and am very intrigued in the science behind the method. I have not decided yet which two days will be my fast days, either Mondays & Wednesdays or Tuesdays & Thursdays... I will let you know how I get on with my first two fast days.

Hello, this is my first post and I am looking forward to reading everyone else's tales of woe and success. I have been doing this now since about October (I did start eating less from June onwards then discovered this way of living) and have lost 6 inches off my waist. I don't weigh myself as in the past I've found that the sight of weighing scales brings out the madwoman in me, but I'm assuming that I have lost around a stone in weight. I find it easy but I am more interested in the long term health benefits of intermittent fasting. Being an owl I find it easier to eat later in the day whereas my husband is a lark and he struggles without breakfast but I think everyone has to work out the best way for themselves. My husband has now lost about a stone and a half, men do not seem to fear the little 'standing stone' in the corner of the bathroom, and I am now able to put my arms round him and feel my fingers meet which just goes to show that nothing is perfect.
