Newbie saying hi :-)

Hello everyone - after reading the 5:2 fast diet book I have to admit I am extremely eager to try this. (I even hunted down and watched the documentary that was aired on horizon). I was a regular slimming world member for 6 years where I did lose just over 3.5 stone and managed to maintain it for several years with a lot of difficulty - life circumstances have meant I couldn't continue and have gradually put 2 stone back on which has put me back in the overweight category with an unhealthy BMI. I think this new way of looking at food/intake and all the added benefits is a no brainer. I think this is definitely worth a go with 100% commitment. At 37 I want to be happy again in how I feel on the inside (and the outside in the clothes I'm wearing) - I'm glad I found this forum. Lots of new recipes, friends and support around the corner. I have decided to fast on mondays and thursdays - new me - here I come x

Hi Roohancock

I was like you, I've done slimming world and weight watchers and lost weight on both, but also put weight back on, I'm nearly 42 and don't want to be in the same overweight unfit state when i reach 50 as I was when I reached 40!

So time for a long overdue change...this diet seemed like the perfect choice for me, I've been on it a week and my first fast day was a challenge but my second fast day on Monday was brilliant, i didn't feel hungry, I even went and sat in a cafe with my boyfriend while everyone was eating big meals round me and it still didn't bother me, I felt in control and it was a great feeling, not one I've had for a long time when it comes to food.

My first weigh in tomoro so we'll see how it goes...but good luck and hope your first week and fast day goes well for you :D

Hi crystaltips71,
Thanks for the good wishes - it's nice to know someone else has shared the same failings at slimming groups that aren't sustainable when you stop going to a class (and handing over money each time you go) this looks really manageable to me - can't wait for my first weigh in - its my first fast day tomorrow. Good luck with yours x

hi both roohancock and crystaltips71- it is amazing how we all(or most of us) seem to share similar stories but as you said this eating style does not require buying "special" food or paying for weighing-in sessions! Here we are in control ourselves and I think that's what makes it special- the onus is on us!! we are in charge- and that feels good!
all the best to you both and everybody who is having a go at this!! ursula

Hi Ujs, I fully agree and I have to admit --- it's day one fast day for me today and I have found it so easy - I think mostly because I have been the one in control. I have gone all day with lots of green tea (which I drink anyway) and one slim a soup at 10am (56K) and apart from the odd rumble, I have not felt like it was a chore. I'm looking forward to my steamed tuna and veg at 8pm in the knowledge that I did it once (and survived) so I can do it! Good luck with your results/health benefits, Ruth x
