For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Hello from a novice dieter

It's my first week and today is my 2nd fast day. My partner and I were both attracted to this 5-2 concept following the article in last weeks Radio Times. We both work and have decided on Tuesday and Thursday as our fast days, and so far so good. Could do with losing up to 15 kilos which has crept up on me since finally stopping smoking 7 years ago, and despite paddling 6-10 kms up to 3 times a week on the river, I am still growing. I tell myself it's an age issue but don't feel like accepting it as given. Of course I love to cook which adds to the equation and a beer and/or glass of wine has become a daily occurence.

Not any more, no booze Monday thru Thursday and a real effort at my first attempt at weight loss.

I am excited to see how this goes!

Hi Moscow & welcome :)

It's great that both you and your partner will be doing this together. I'd love for my husband to be doing this, although he doesn't need to lose weight I'm sure the health benefits would help cancel out the damage he does through smoking.

I'm sure you'll have no trouble shifting that weight with this way of life. I've lost 15kg since August and it feels as though it's been almost no effort!
