Our Frequently Asked Questions topic will answer many of your fasting & weight loss questions!

If you're new and have a question or need some advice, please give us as much information as you can about your situation in order for us to be able to help you as best we can. For example, it's helpful to know your BMI/weight, how much you want to lose, any medical conditions which might affect your weight and (if you've started fasting already) how you do your fasts in terms of splitting up your calories, what you eat etc. Thanks!

Another newbie to 5:2

Hello, I didn't see Michael's documentary but my mother saved me an article in one of the daily papers a couple of weeks ago. It was very interesting, especially the parts about how this diet can either prevent or slow dementia as well as losing weight. I lost my dad to dementia 15 months ago which was horrendous to watch. I take after my dad quite a bit and so I am terrified of getting dementia. I have also had a battle with weight for most of my adult life. In my mid twenties I lost 2.5 stone easily on a high fibre diet. Kept that off for quite a while but I would say I have been a couple of stone overweight now for a good 15 years. Have tried a LOT of different diets and, as I love eating (quite healthily) I have a terrible sweet tooth, which means I usually cave in pretty quickly, within a couple of weeks. The fact that you do this one on two non-consecutive days per week sounds amazing!

I have now done this diet for one week (my fast day 2 was yesterday - Saturday). I have weighed myself this morning and have lost 3lbs although I reaslise that, as with most diets the initiall loss is usually water. However, I am still chuffed to bits with this. Had a couple of blips on each of the two fast days but nibbled on red pepper and found this OK.

Am actually looking forward to keeping this going and its great to read other peoples posts. I'm especially interested in the ones regarding Menopause.

Hi, I've only just joined the forum but have been following the eating approach for quite a while. I like the fact that there are other health benefits over and above the weight loss (although I need to lose quite a bit more weight). Well done with your weight loss so far.
