TML, Good point re thyroid stimulation - the company even uses this mechanism to "explain" why their product supposedly works. Re caffeine: the product contains green (and mate) tea, which again contain caffeine.

I looked at their page with the "scientific" rationale for the supplement. Last in the list are two sources of caffeine and they say that these herbs were chosen for their caffeine content. One is a type of green tea. Good point about the seaweed too TML13!
josie50 wrote: Leptin is made in response to fat intake in the food. The hormone tells your brain that you have eating enough, and in turn the brain tells you that you can stop eating. Food stuffs high in glucose/fructose (and possibly other carbohydrates too) do not elicit leptin release. Which is why foods high in sugars are so incredibly fattening. Hope this helps.
Foods high in sugars elicit a big insulin response which is why they are fattening, the high insulin rapidly packs the sugar away as fat resulting in a drop in blood sugar resulting in hunger. People with high insulin levels are usually insulin resistant and leptin resistant too, so it's the leptin resistance not the leptin release that's the problem.
Well, well, well I had no idea that green tea had caffeine...
Sea weed/kelp are usually mistaken for helping those with a thyroid condition but this is a knife with two edges. Yes, in some cases, they help but only if a doctor (and not just a GP, you need an endocrinologist for that) says that it will.
