I picked up 'the fast diet' book last week, I wasn't intending to buy the book or start on this WOE, I was intending to go back to Slimming World WOE. Anyway I bought the book and started leafing through it and was inspired by what I read. Hadn't see the Horizon programme so I sought that out on the internet and was hooked by what I saw.
I'm 40 in a months time and really want to look much better than I do now. I looked the best I have for my 30th and I would really like to be that weight again this year. I'm 5 ft 3 and weigh 12 stone, just under a BMI of 30. I work in the NHS (so really should know better) and have always blamed my long, busy shift patterns on my weight gain. I work 12 or 13 hour shifts and frequently don't get to eat because it's so busy. Reading the book made me realise that I can use these shifts to my advantage and use them to help me with fasting.
In the past I've usually had something like porridge or poached eggs on wholemeal toast at about 6am before setting off on a long shift. By the time I get home it's past 9pm and if I haven't managed to eat I've normally stuffed a carbohydrate rich meal into my mouth which has really made the hunger set in and set me off on a spiral of eating.
Yesterday was my 2nd fast day so far, and I managed it no problem. My husband decided to jump on board after my first fast day last week when he saw there was a 4lb loss on the scales. This is amazing because he has increased in weight over the years and not been bothered. His meal choices when busy have always been quick fixes, and calorie laden carbohydrate. So now that he is making concious descisions about what he's eating is sure to have positive effects on his weight, and it seems so much easier if we have fast days together.
The first week was quite easy, I was on annual leave and busy with the kids. This week will be my first test. Back to work tonight on a night shift and I plan on tomorrow being a fast day, so after dinner tonight no more eating until dinner tomorrow night (find it easier just sticking to 1 meal on fast days). I've got to keep myself well hydrated to avoid the hunger pangs or the night shift munchies will kick in and I'll nibble anything going. Planning a nice little loss on the scales on Wednesday morning.
End of the rambling, sure there'll be a few more along the way
