Emms' Progress
08 Apr 2013, 09:06
Six days ago I decided to give the 5:2 diet a go... My weight has been creeping up for the last five years (since I gave up smoking), but particularly in the last 18 months, when I've gained a stone and a half

I tried the Cambridge diet for a while about two years ago, and although the initial losses were gratifying, it's soooo difficult to stick to - I have to just accept that I like food, and I enjoy eating. Since I stopped it the weight has come back, plus some!

I've also been on WW, both the groups and the online/postal plans, but the pattern is the same. I lose a reasonable amount, have even been virtually at target, but the weight always comes back again.

The 5:2 appeals to me because it isn't a 'diet', it's a new way of eating for life, and I can adapt it to suit my life, instead of having to adapt my life to fit my 'diet'. So that's my potted history, now on to my progress....

I only started 6 days ago, with a fast day, and I am planning to fast on Mondays and Thursdays in future. Bearing that in mind I weighed myself this morning, because I don't want my weekly weigh in to take place straight after a fast. I'm happy to report that I have lost 4lbs and my waist has gone down by 1.25". I know that this weight loss is because it is my first week, and I am not expecting it to carry on at this rate, but I am chuffed, and it has really given me a boost for week two :like:

Woohoo well done you! I've done well in my first two weeks and I'm not expecting it to carry on like this but I'm not going to complain either! Well done again xx

Well done from me too.
Keep going. Isn't it exciting when you see the inches disappear!

Thank you :) I must admit that it's the inches (well inch) that pleases me most! My clothes already feel much more comfortable, and I feel less bloated. Finished my third fast day successfully yesterday, and I found it easier. I was still hungry by the evening obviously, but not ravenous like the previous Tuesday

Great work!
I know how you feel with other diets just being hard work.
Too much effort and its too easy to quit!
Love the 5:2 concept and hope I can make it my way of life.

So, today was my weigh day at the end of my third week, and I must confess that I found both my fast days really hard going last week, so I wasn't surprised to have gained a small amount of weight (especially as we had fish and chips at the weekend!) However, it is less than a pound gain, and when I measured my waist, that has dropped another half an inch :D

I'm happy with that - after all, when people look at me, they don't see what I weigh tattooed on my forehead, they see what I look like in my clothes.

This week is a bit hectic, although my schedule is rather vague, so I may only manage one fast day at the end of the week, but onwards and upwards!!
