I had sort of convinced myself that my normal, healthy weight was the 207 lbs that I've maintained the last 8 years or so (I'm 5'11'')........truth be told, I "felt" heavy and was noticing that getting up from playing on the floor with my son was more work than it should be. Also not wild about the shirtless me!
I love food and while I am not a big junk food eater, I overeat and don't know when to stop. I overdo the baked goods and sweets that are plentiful especially during the winter. I also was enjoying 9-14 drinks a week (mostly beer and wine). Last year I cut alcohol out for a month and lost 7 lbs, so clearly the alcohol calories were adding to my weight. A fairly avid walker, I swim in the nicer months and very sporadically play other sports (I don't do the gym). I basically hibernate during the New England winters and get very little activity. One thing I've noticed is that regardless of my activity level, my weight stays the same (I've tracked my calorie intake when I exercise and it isn't that much greater than when I am a couch potato).
I have a larger "trunk" and fat accumulates in those pesky and unflattering love handles. I don't have a big belly but two less-than-savvy relatives remarked about my excess poundage. I recently calculated my body fat percentage at 29.6, so clearly there is some weight to lose.
So, I've lost 11 lbs over the course of 11 fasts (5.5 weeks). 196 right now. Very happy with the results. My goal is another 11 lbs and hopefully be able to maintain at 185. I've been very good on fast days, although had one bust fast day (blame a birthday party) that I promptly took back by fasting the following day. Typically I eat eggs, fish and veggies on fast days. I can manage the huger without too much of a problem although there are temptations everywhere. I've noticed that overall I am much more conscientious about what I eat which is a good thing. I also feel great the day after my fast days-certainly no overwhelming hunger in the morning.
So I am definitely inspired by the early success and looking forward to hopefully reaching my goal in the next two months or so. Thanks to all of you for your inspiration!
