My weigh in day today, 19 April and I remain 10 stone 7lb. The first week I haven't seen a loss after 12 weeks on 5:2, with the last 8 or so water fasting twice a week. Every other week I've lost either one, two or, on a couple of occasions, three pounds, with a 1.7lb average loss overall up to week 11.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not too annoyed about it as I've lost 19lb so far!

I have been toying with the idea of doing another 60 hour fast. I've done two so far, although oddly, they weren't the weeks I lost three pounds. I think I'll do it again next week as I'm slightly worried about this 'plateau' business. I definitely want to lose the last half stone to get to 10 stone and preferably under by three or four pounds to make sure I keep around the 10 stone mark when I move to maintenance.

I suppose, thinking about what I ate on non fast days this week it was pretty carb heavy - charge of soda bread and potatoes - so that probably didn't help as carbs seem to be the enemy.

My belly is still stubbornly flabby. Although it's reduced sufficiently that I can wear pretty tight clothes and look skinny. Would still like a flat stomach though. I suppose I may have to seriously consider the dreaded sit ups!

The booze undoubtedly doesn't help either. I think I might take up Rufus's challenge and try to do next week alcohol free. If I made it, I'd probably not drink for a full 11 days as I rarely drink during the week. You heard it here first people!!

Anyway, here's to 5:2 and continued success for everyone!! Happy Friday all and have a lovely weekend! redhead x
You've done great so far redhead, I really wouldn't worry if there's one week where you've not lost - and bear in mind you're in the healthy weight range so it may well start to slow a bit at this point. It's also good to remember that your natural body weight fluctuations could be masking the pound you've actually lost this week - a bit of water retention or something possibly. That said, if you've eaten plenty this week isn't it nice to know you can do that and not gain anything? :D

I wouldn't assume it's a plateau unless it goes on for more than a week. A week can be explained away by any number of reasons.

I've recently had several weeks where my weight didn't shift. Last week it went down almost a pound and this week it's the same again. My BMI is still higher than yours (almost back to the healthy range) but I'm not surprised the loss has slowed down a bit. If I can keep eating like this and still have it go down - however slowly - I'll be happy!

Unfortunately, while we may reduce fat through dieting, the only way to totally stop bit from wobbling is to tone up. I preach it but I don't do it ;) One day I might!

TL;DR: Don't worry, it's just one week. Could be almost any reason. See how it goes over the next few weeks!
At this stage I wouldn't panic. I know its hard when you get so close to target but thats the point when things start to readjust. I used to follow a low carb forum and their mantra was that you had to have stuck for 4wks for it to count as a stall. If I go carb-heavy I gain a heap of water and it shifts again when I cut back to a more moderate level.
Thanks Moogie and Miffy! That's comforting and good advice!
Well done on your progress so far. I can't really comment further, as I'm still a newbie to it all, so I'll agree with what miffy49 and Moogie have said :-)

A HUGE good luck to you on your no-alcohol week if you do decide to do it. I know I would really struggle not to have my boozy Friday and Saturday. I think I've earnt a wine or two after the stresses of the week!!

:-)
Wow! It is great that you have had such good weight loss over 11 weeks. I look forward to the same hopefully.
I think you'll get back on track next week. I had a plateau between week 9 and 11 where I only lost 100g per week (i.e. nothing really). So I'm not sure if three months in your body does another adjustment to its metabolism as the week after I went back to losing a decent amount. I think a few people have posted messages about problems around week 12.

Of course the carbs and booze will also be a factor. I used to be quite a heavy drinker before I had children (at least 1 whole bottle of wine at least 5 days a week). I went off the booze when I got pregnant so didn't touch a drop so I was then in control of it and I will never go back to those levels again. We have a policy now of only having a drink three nights a week, and often that's only one glass of wine. Of course it helps that having young children around means that we don't get to go out much so we don't have the social drinking pressure that comes with being in pubs/bars.

If you can make a break with the drink then just like fasting, it hopefully will put you back in control of your appetite.
Thanks folks. I actually thought I'd replied to this, but must not have posted properly. It's interesting about the 9 to 12 week thing. I think that's the threshold for turning this from a diet into a way of life.

I've resolved to do a dry week from today for 12 days until Thursday week. Next weekend will be the toughest point, but I want to see if I can abstain just to test my own self control. I won't be out next weekend so that will help. Have a hell of a hangover today after a day out celebrating a confirmation yesterday so at the moment I feel pretty determined to do it!!
