:-) My face is a little noticeably slimmer, my tape measure tells me my chest is a little slimmer, but the tummy-says-no...
Yes, I'm down a few pounds (Don't refer to my tracker, I messed up some of the entries), but my waist is still the same size.

As you lose weight all over the body and not where the fat seems to accumulate most, you'll notice it coming off slower in the fatter areas.

It'll go :)
I agree with Steve, it will go but which bits go first depends on the individual.

I have lost quite a lot off waist as well as face, and less I think from thighs (though I haven't measured them!) I think this may be because I am more of a natural 'pear' shape, and the 'pearapple' shape I had taken on was due to overeating (a bit) for most of my life. (If this talk of apples and pears means nothing to you, see the Ashwell shape chart.)
I am a pear shape carrying most of my weight around my thighs and bum (with +10 inch difference between hip and waist measurement). I have found that with this diet I am losing a lot more around the thighs and bum than my waist. To date i have lost 7.5 cm around my waist (this fluctuate with my cycle and some weeks goes up again) but 13 cm from around my bum and 8 cm from each of my thighs. :) I think we tend to lose from different places depending on where the fat is stored. If I were going by waist measurement alone I would be disappointed (most was lost in first few weeks, taken nearly a month to lose a further 1.5 cm due to fluctuations) but the other measurements I take show I am getting smaller in other areas. I think individual variability come into play here. :)
Yes, definitely. I am on a steady gentle downward slope of about 1/2 a pound each week, but my waist has stayed resoulutely the same over the past two months of 5:2.
Cannot say I am too concerned as, although waist was the only measurement I took, I am aware of the fat slowly melting away elswhere. My belt will soon need a new hole making, and I can feel the odd bony bit here and there that was previously well insulated with fat.
Onward and downward!
My gut is certainly the place with most fat left, but it is going down slowly. I suspect that the boy uses the fat from around the other areas before focussing on its main stores...
hmm, is visceral fat not the last to go? and isn't the tum and there abouts the place where most is stored? COuld be wrong though, but it'll shift cos it has to as the rest will go.
sorry , not much help...
The visceral fat reading on my Omron scale has been going down steadily over the months, but I'm not sure how much stock to put in it...
I'm the same as you, DrLCH...my legs and hips have always been where I see the first weight gain and last weight loss, but on 5:2 I seem to be losing a lot there first. Weird.

I do notice though that my tummy isn't as firm or bloated feeling and seems flatter even though I only measure one inch lost around the waist. I suspect that I've lost some visceral fat leading to the less bloated look, but I'm left with plenty of fat under the skin and a high waist measurement. So aside from the measurements, DadOfTwo, how does your abdomen feel? Is it possible that your visceral fat is going but other things are effecting your measurement?

It doesn't seem logical to me for it to be the last place because it is (we are told) the 'worst' place to store fat and you would think the body would try to rid the fat there before turning to the natural fat stores such as bum and thighs. Still, que sera sera.

I had to buy a belt pretty early on after starting 5:2, and then get extra holes made in it, and I'm now on the last but one.

I guess many ladies might be glad if they are losing off their lower half before their waist?!
