This link highlights a sad story of young woman in the U.K. who died using a Raspberry Ketone mix supplement. They also talk about similar problems in the U.S. with OTC supplements. So, buyer beware.

Oh dear, I haven't had a chance to read the link yet but I do remember @carorees writing a while ago that they are a waste of time.
She took the whole bottle in a successful suicide attempt. The ketones weren't the problem (they are probably worthless). The problem is that these supplements are full of caffeine. The caffeine is probably what makes people think they work.

What this really points out is how little people know about what is in the supplements they take. And in the U.S. there is no guarantee that what is on the label and what is in the bottle match as the FDA doesn't regulate labels and will only investigate a supplement after it kills someone. This is because a big donor to Orin Hatch's campaigns is a big wheel in the supplement business and gave a lot of money to legislators to make it illegal for the FDA to regulate supplements. The same guy and his cronies, some of whom had already been jailed for fraud started a consumer campaign telling people that the FDA wanted to "take their supplements away" and getting them to write to their congressmen to support removing all regulation of supplements.
Thanks for this,@peebles. For those not familiar with US politics, Hatch is a long-time US Senator from the state of Utah--he wields a great deal of power.
