Try to find the book 'Pure white and deadly' by Prof Yudkin. Go to youtube to listen to Dr Lustig lecture on sugar.

You may take what they say with a pinch of salt, but every nutrionist agrees that sugar serves no specific purpose for the human body apart from taste. In a sedentary state, chemically, sugar processed no different than alcohol by the liver with similar detrimental outcomes with the exception of only intoxication.

Question is, if your body doesn't need it and its potentially harmful, why would anyone want to take a chance by loading up on it?
