Hi, I am new to these boards and I am just starting my first day of fasting. Haven't fasted since I was a student!
I wonder if any one has seen this article?

Hi Martin

I think I read that one last week?
I agreed with Hugh that the whole thing can get a bit confusing with the concept of fasting (for repair benefits) getting muddled with dieting. He was anti- snacking/but staying under 500 calories, wasn't he? I get his point. It starts to seem more like a two day diet than a two day fast.

I guess many people on this forum have weight loss as their priority and a two day diet is attractive,, compared to a seven day diet. I am probably one of these people to be honest, though the extra benefits are appealing.

What did you think?
I agree with him about the 'snacking' I don't see that as fasting either, so far I've just stuck to a late breakfast and dinner, with lots of herbal teas in between...I honestly think if I started nibbling veg or fruit in between it'd make it harder for me.
Again I agree with all of you. I would struggle if I started to eat in between my two meals, plus you are consuming calories that you could not then have for your other meals.

I do the same as LynnO - very late breakfast and then dinner - lots of water and tea.

I agree with Hugh too, I don't eat at all during the day and save my calories for the evening. The only bit of cheating is milk in tea and coffee. I would like to say that this is because I think it is better for activating 'cellular stress' but the real reason is that I find it easier - I am more awake in the mornings anyway and it is in the evenings that I really crave the calories!
Interesting replies.

I'm still experimenting with what works best for me, probably fasting from dinner to dinner. I'm only four fasts in, so still seeing how it goes.

I think if you are opposed to the concept of dieting, the 500 calorie restriction and seeing what you can eat through the day within this allowance will rankle. Fasting purists won't be keen either!

To each his own, I say! Once you start this way of eating and see that skipping meals isn't so painful, anything is possible. My husband fasted completely for 36 hours last week just to see if he could do it! He could easily (which surprised him) and he is now going to do this weekly, on a 6:1 basis. He doesn't need to lose any more weight, having lost the few pounds that were knocking around within two weeks but wants to get the health benefits.
I also avoid snacking between meals, as I think it makes it harder. For the same reason I have no breakfast on my fast day. I sometimes have a marigold vegetable buillion drink for lunch which is around 12 calories and that's it! However,if I really struggle I do allow a Werther's Original sugar free butter candy (40 calories for 5 pieces) It keeps my mouth busy for a while and is really nice with a black coffee ;)
Yes, it's easier for me not to snack too. A while back I had a day when I knew the planned evening dinner left me some calories free. So I decided that after doggy walkies (I do two hours a day at least) on a cold, miserable day that I would eat a banana. This only made me more peckish and with my fingers hovering towards various other bits and bobs and generally not feeling so good about it. So now it's nothing in between works best for me.
