Although this book has been cited here before (I think), it's great that you've highlighted it, B&W. It makes for fascinating and delightful reading. I'm sure many people here would find it entertaining and illuminating.

The book is in the public domain and available for free download in various formats from the wonderful folks at Gutenberg:

It's amusing - and disheartening - to read how little has changed in the "diet industry" in the last century.
