Looks at insulin effect on blood glucose in men before and after a prolonged fast. After fast the reduction in blood sugar from an insulin shot didn't affect them in terms of symptoms of hypoglycaemia.

Thank you for posting that research.

I find it interesting that pre-5:2 I was low carbing and one thing I found difficult with low carbing was that I have a history of hypoglycaemia which when it would strike I would suffer the perspiration, palpitations etc and I was worried that I would suffer hypoglycaemia when fasting. Interestingly enough I have not had a full blown hypoglycaemic attack while 5:2ing. When I started fasting I did have to have an afternoon snack (of vege sticks and hoummus) and a dinner. With some practice I can now go from dinner to dinner fasting with no problems.

Just this morning I was thinking about how I didn't eat porridge as oats were a food that really sent my blood sugar crashing (about two hours after eating them I would want to fall asleep). So, I am now wondering if I should be brave and see if I can now eat porridge.

For me the whole eat small amounts often to keep your blood sugar stable just didn't work. I find it interesting that my blood sugar on normal eating days is nice and stable and I can't remember the last time I had a problem. Generally speaking I don't snack on eating days I just stick to my main meals.
Oats mess with my BG big style! They seem to cause really bad hypos that come on quickly with no warning. Even worse is a gluten free porridge mix made from millet and buckwheat that I got when I couldn't find any gluten free oats. Bad enough when it happens at home but I got caught out in the supermarket a couple of times after a porridge breakfast and felt a right idiot!

Like you, I was pleasantly surprised that fasting didn't seem to bother me at all from a hypo point of view. I do find that I still need to keep my carbs down though to keep my BG from creeping back up so the 'eat what you like' bit of the 5:2 really hasn't paid off for me.
Re oats as much as I would love porridge and muesli can't tolerate them and I wonder why?

Yeah good to read Phil thanks but weirdly repetitive to read
