Shown last week at CES 2015: the crowd funded Healbe Gobe activity monitor that claims to non-invasively monitor calories IN (as well as out). See the BBC News article http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30681002 http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-30681002
Claims to be 84% accurate. Has three biosensors. Large amount of online scepticism.... Definately not ISO15189 compliant and Possibly too good to be true?
I hadn't heard of this and it was an interesting read.

I have to confess that I am sick to death of companies that claim their algorithms are proprietary and have to be arm-wrestled into admitting the size of their experimental groups.

Given the many problems with bio-impedance, full stop, I can't even begin to see a mechanism for how this works. (Actually, I can, but it's not the bio-impedance, it's something else, and would work more reliably in healthy males <60 years than older people or women. Long story short - temperature variance. 'Tho I may be very wrong and I would be utterly delighted to be proven wrong about this technology because this would be a genuine game changer - if and only if the 84% could be improved because although that sounds good, for health purposes like this, it's pretty poor.)

ETA: this pretty much sums up my attitude/concerns: http://pando.com/2014/03/31/as-more-exp ... -campaign/

Yep.....
I found this patent application on google....
"Systems and methods for determining caloric intake using a personal correlation factor"
http://www.google.com/patents/WO2014099255A1?cl=en
Can't say I understand this, but seems to describe a "Personal correlation factor" that is determined during a calibration period. I note that "George" from Healbe has recently posted that it takes a day to calibrate and is then set up for the individual.

Perhaps a similar approach????

No flippin' way
Healbe announced that they now have full certification and apparently they are going to start shipping next week....

It would be cool if that were true. Would have to have some refinements. If you eat and wait 2 1/2 hours to find out what you ate you might find you over ate. Then what?
If these are for real, I'd love one. Sure you may need to wait a few hours to know how much you've consumed, but I'd be more interested in just having a figure at the end of the day without totting it all up myself, and as usual if I'd gone over tdee I'd balance it out the next day :)

Article title: "Exclusive: We tested the world’s first automatic calorie counter, and it works!"
But there's several "Buts" around this....
From the review...

"...Using three sensors and a lot of complex math, the GoBe I’ve worn on my wrist for a week has told me precisely how many calories I’ve shoveled in, and how many I’ve burned. And I’ve checked it against box labels and other fitness gadgets.

I had been prepared to jump onboard with the vocal critics calling the GoBe snake oil. I won’t: The last week has been a total life changer. Not only does it work, learning how many calories I eat and how many I burn each day has me thinking about food and exercise in a completely new way.

Sadly, the GoBe is also one of the buggiest, most frustrating devices I’ve ever used. Here’s an in-depth look at one of the most exciting, yet still deeply flawed, gadgets on the brink of hitting shelves..."
