Weight Maintenance

Hi, I'm new to this site and didn't find this page before my introduction, so I'm using part of it here .
It's nearly a year since the Horizon programme and my adhering to the 5:2 lifestyle. I was drawn to to it not by the idea of weight loss but by the promise of the amazing long term health benefits. Whilst it is obvious that I have lost weight, I have no idea if my health will have improved. I have tried looking online to see if there has been any follow up to the programme and it's claims but all I find are mentions of the weight loss element. I am very happy to have lost some weight but as I see this as possibly being a lifetimes commitment to the eating regime, I wonder if any one has news on whether the greater health benefits have been verified or even disproved?
It's been very interesting doing this fast. I've never had a problem with the fast. I don't eat anything until early evening and have even found I can exercise without problem also. However as I didn't start it to loose weight I've taken the feed days rather too dramatically to heart. I never had any great control with yummy food. I would buy biscuits at the shop with the thought that I had something nice in the cupboard when my god children visited, ....... however I normally ate them all whilst unpacking the rest of the shopping. I found the only way to not over indulge was to simply not buy tempting food. So I now love my feed days as I eat anything I like. I do however fear that if I stopped the fasting days I would carry on with the undisciplined eating and would end up less healthy than when I started.
I'm a 49 year old man and before I saw the Horizon programme I'd just had full health check as part of an NHS health survey. This had already started me upping my swimming. I am as fit as I have ever been and can get into some hiking trousers I had when I was 20! I lost about 8kg's in the first couple of months but I've not lost anything more in the last 9 months (i wonder if the chocolate and cake has anything to do with that?!)
Hi, I have been fasting since the beginning of April and I feel great. I suffer from arthritis and take a lot of medication. I have monthly blood tests and my doctor just told me that this last test was the best in ten years!! I have also noticed a lot less inflammation in my joints and feel better than ever :)
I do liquid only fasts twice a week and now don't find them particularly difficult. Weightloss was a nice side effect even though I have not lost much in the last six weeks. But I might be eating a. It too much on the other days :)
I am intending to keep fasting for as long as I can to take advantage of any possible health benefits. I am hoping that my tastes have been a little reset by 5:2; am eating 2 squares of Lindt 85% chocolate on my 5 days and now any other chocolates tastes far too sweet and sickly. Was reading another thread about cake as I have been fantasising about cake for quite a long time; earlier in the week I gave in and bought a maple and pecan plait (which used to be my favourite) after eating it I felt quite disappointed. Have even avoided the cakes and biscuits in the school staffroom. I too had one of the NHS checks for people of a certain age and was very pleased with my results. :)
Hi and Welcome I started this WOL late April and M/obese so therefore looking firstly to lose weight 15 weeks later I've lost 2 stone and dropped down a group on my BMI and feel absolutely fantastic, I started walking on my first fastday and now do a 4/5 mile walk on each of my 3 f/days
I'm doing 4:3 simply because of the amount I have to lose.
However I've stopped all medication for OE that I have in my hips+knees also in adulthood been Migraine sufferer and as yet no migraine only handful headaches + not very bad ones :like:
So as you can imagine I'm very happy like so many people on this forum with similar problems + good results. Good luck :clover: Sue
