Hi, I'm new to this site and didn't find this page before my introduction, so I'm using part of it here .
It's nearly a year since the Horizon programme and my adhering to the 5:2 lifestyle. I was drawn to to it not by the idea of weight loss but by the promise of the amazing long term health benefits. Whilst it is obvious that I have lost weight, I have no idea if my health will have improved. I have tried looking online to see if there has been any follow up to the programme and it's claims but all I find are mentions of the weight loss element. I am very happy to have lost some weight but as I see this as possibly being a lifetimes commitment to the eating regime, I wonder if any one has news on whether the greater health benefits have been verified or even disproved?
It's been very interesting doing this fast. I've never had a problem with the fast. I don't eat anything until early evening and have even found I can exercise without problem also. However as I didn't start it to loose weight I've taken the feed days rather too dramatically to heart. I never had any great control with yummy food. I would buy biscuits at the shop with the thought that I had something nice in the cupboard when my god children visited, ....... however I normally ate them all whilst unpacking the rest of the shopping. I found the only way to not over indulge was to simply not buy tempting food. So I now love my feed days as I eat anything I like. I do however fear that if I stopped the fasting days I would carry on with the undisciplined eating and would end up less healthy than when I started.
I'm a 49 year old man and before I saw the Horizon programme I'd just had full health check as part of an NHS health survey. This had already started me upping my swimming. I am as fit as I have ever been and can get into some hiking trousers I had when I was 20! I lost about 8kg's in the first couple of months but I've not lost anything more in the last 9 months (i wonder if the chocolate and cake has anything to do with that?!)
