lost weight on 6:1
15 Jul 2013, 14:13
Hi,

I reached my goal 2 or 3 weeks ago but planned to continue 5:2 for a while then go to 6:1. My weight kept hovering just below the target, so I decided to skip the second fast day last Thursday to make it a 6:1 week.

Then we went away for the weekend, anticipating a lot of eating. Actually, it was so hot and humid in Kingston, Ontario, (where were those cooling lake breezes?) that we became too tired to do much of anything, even eating. Of course, age has something to do with it: (OH is 80 and I'm 72) This morning I was still half a pound below my target weight (and feeling a little rocky) so I'm skipping Monday's fasting, too.

Unfortunately, when I added my weekly stats today, I mistakenly put in a weight a pound more than it actually is. So if you look at my tracker, you'll have to imagine the weight a pound less than shown.

I've read here that heat and humidity do have an effect on weight loss--maybe our bodies work hard trying to keep cool? Our home here (the forecast is for high heat and humidity the rest of the week) and the B&B in Kingston have AC, but the exercise room at the senior center really heats up even with AC; and we'll be walking the 1/4 mile back and forth. I usually carry extra wrist and hand weights to the class, but today I'll be leaving them home.

Thanks to Moogie and the other moderators for this wonderful and supportive forum; and thanks to all of you who make it so informative and enjoyable.

August 2:

6:1 seemed to bring me well below (3 pounds) of my target (I only wanted to lose 10 pounds) so I didn't fast at all this week. My new weigh-in now shows I've gained 2.5 pounds this week, so I'll be fasting again on Monday.

Perhaps I'll develop something like 13:1 to stay right where I want to be. Love being able to flex the plan to fit me!

That's what I love about this WoE, it's so flexible and you have a handy tool whenever needed. Well done! :)

It's interesting how many different maintenance strategies people come up with, much like losing weight, I guess. Good luck, Marybeth!

I haven't fasted in a week and a half and today at my weekly weigh-in I'm half a pound above the goal and 1/4 inch bigger at waist than last week. Looks like I need another fast day. I'll schedule it for Monday when I'm busy out and about and also Thursday if necessary.

I like keeping daily track and knowing when I need to do a fast day.

That sounds just how I want to be now I'm on maintenance Marybeth :like:

My current plan is fast on a Monday (I usually overeat & overdrink at the weekend so I like my Monday fast) and 16:8 on a Thursday (which used to be my second fast day)

If that keeps me where I am then fine, if not then I'll tweek the Thursday when necessary (either up it to a fast, or not 16:8, dependent on which direction I'm going )

I will continue daily weighing, I need to, if I see myself put on more than 1kg then I MUST nip it straight in the bud or I'll end up back where I was (there speaks the voice of bitter experience).

Glad it's working so well for you, gives me hope :like:

After a couple of months of maintenance, I've decided to shift my goals slightly down (only a few pounds, really, but I want to feel confident wearing those size 12 [US] trousers). I pledged to myself to do more situps at home, too, in addition to the "chair crunches" at Weight Training class in order to firm up those abs. I can't do the cc's very effectively because it strains my lower back too much. At home I can lie on the floor with a folded cloth pad under the small of my back to do situps and lower trunk curls without danger of the lower back pain recurring. Unfortunately, my pledge has not been kept very often! Need to get off the couch--it's not easy for septuagenarians to get down on (and up from) the floor.

Anyway, two days of fasting this week has me on my way to my new goals--This woe and this forum have helped me so much--thanks all.

Get yourself an abmat, make life easier.

Maybe practice lunges, very carefully to help with the getting up and down.

No exercise should be straining your lower back, ask your coach for a substitute. ;-)

Thanks, BBT. I'll look into your suggestions. We do lunges in class, but I should probably do some more at home.

Very carefully...

I was having trouble with getting up & down. They helped but brain hates them & I wobble a lot. I'm 41...
