Part of headline: Many following 5:2 diet think it's ok to binge on weekend - but it is causing their diet to fail

‘The 5:2 diet is becoming increasingly popular – where we limit our calories for five days and allow ourselves a few treats on the other two days.
‘For many people, the two days off are Saturday and Sunday but they go way too far.’

I would say those people are not serious 5:2 fasters. They think that being "good" during the week gives them licence to binge at the weekend. So basically they are just binge eaters looking for an excuse to binge. And as an occasional binger (although not since starting 5:2), I know their 'reasoning'.
Can totally relate to that.

I could never eat that amount. But I will be more mindful of what I eat this weekend. Thanks for sharing navwoman
Whoever the Forza spokesperson is they are quoting doesn't even know what the 5:2 diet is...she has it as 5 days of dieting and 2 days of bingeing. The real 5:2 diet is 5 days of normal eating and 2 days of fasting. Big difference there.

Seems a bit unfair :frown:

Well the description of the 5:2 diet itself is wrong!!
We limit calories for TWO days a week and TRY to stick to TDEE the other days.
And actually even if you did eat half your calories on the weekend, as long as you had an overall weekly calorie deficit you would lose! (I am not recommending this just pointing out the truth)
I actually despise the Daily Mail, their reporting is always biased and scaremongering.
I guess it depends on what they mean by binge. I find now that if I eat what I used to consider a normal meal, I am uncomfortably full. But they may be right that some people doing 5:2 do that.
I had forgotten just what a load of old twaddle the DM is! Anyway, I could never just stick to five Hobnobs if they were in reach of my sticky fingers!
However with Saturday looming it is a good reminder that 5:2 isn't meant to be a free for all on the five days. Having the opportunity to eat the odd cake, biscuit, have the occasional fish and chips has made a difference to my obsession with food that I had when constantly watching my diet every day. You are more likely to blow out on the weekend if you are constantly restricted.
This is so much easier!
OK, I actually do binge, a lot, on Fridays and Saturdays. It works amazingly well, I've lost a lot of weight, quickly, and I plan to happily continue my weekend binge habit, my weekends are a lot more fun now with 5:2 and I can't see any problem.

Seems like this poll was produced by Forza supplements, they earn their living by selling diet pills.

Perhaps something as simple as people controlling their weight without any kind of pharmaceutical help might be perceived as a threat to their business.

But I do wonder how many 5:2 people actually do fail? The statistics from users on this forum is unlikely to give much indication about the complete statistics. Those who fail will usually not use or publish their progress tracker data, or even be a part of communities like these. Even so, I don't think the quality of a protocol can be judged based on those who doesn't follow it.
Amazon sells Forza diet supplements, couldn't see anything with 5 stars. As for the article done by an reporter who wants to remain anon. Out of all the diets out there why bring 5:2 into it,its FREE,you don't need to buy supplements. Usual DM Rubbish but thanks for posting.

Eh? That's not the 5:2 diet!
I certainly don't worry about what I eat from Friday evenings to Sunday night; so is a free for all over the weekend for me  but don't have the DM definition of a blow out. I just could not eat that much.
For the 4 months I was losing weight; my fast day was Mondays, to lose the weight I put on over the weekend and Thursdays to lose weight. On the other weekdays I was mindful about what I eat and didn't drink. With that program I lost on average 1.5lb a week.

I have now dropped the Thursday fast day as reached my target weight and have stayed at that weight for around 2 months so far.

So it is possible to have a free for all at weekends and lose weight with 5:2
It's the Daily Mail - need I say more?!
From what I can see the Forza Supplements Poll was at their web site, which reasonably would attract people interested in diet pills rather than those considering changing their lifestyle.

This poll and article says absolutely nothing about how 5:2 is working. Forza Supplements have the "opinion" that that some 5:2 people eat and drink too much on weekends and should try out their diet pills, meh...
