Oh dear, I really am living proof of this category.
I joined this forum over a year ago and promptly stopped trying to diet. Why? Really dont know.
Anyhow I am now determined, so deep breath and here goes, diet starts tomorrow!!

Hi Effie
There's quite a few of us in the same boat, returning after an extended break.
Possibly ,as ballerina mentioned ,due to the summer months looming ever closer.
For me it's not really the fast days that worry me, but the non-fast as that's where I continually fall down,
Any way, here I am again. Trying once more.
I know 5:2 works but it's not a miracle cure. We have to be mindful of what we eat on fast and non fast days.
I really hope it works for you (and me) this time round.
Good luck to all start againers!!!!

Welcome back to all the re-starters. I WAS in the same boat and dragged myself out of it (with help from forum friends). I first started fasting in September and loss a bit of weight. After xmas I just couldn't get back on the wagon and regained all the weight I'd lost. I kept trying to fast and would just give up by mid-afternoon and tell myself 'I'll just fast on wednesday' or when ever. At the end of March a lovely forum friend messaged me asking where I'd gone and told me to get back on track. I said I would do it and decided to do 4:3. I know it sounds even harder but 3 days of non-fast in a row are just too many for me and I find it harder to get back on track after the 3rd non-fastday. Anyway, I'm doing it. My new day 1 was the 24th of March and in the last 8 weeks I've lost 9.2 lbs (that's even with a little blip at easter). I check into the forum lots and it really keeps me on track. I tell forum friends what I'll be doing and when (eg. which fastdays, low carb, when I'll go walking etc) and then tell them when I've done it. It really helps. Make sure you all go on the 'fasting today' thread tomorrow, (check in every hour if you need to) and we'll all be there to help you through your new day 1. Oh and stop telling yourself you're going to fail and start telling yourself you are going to succeed, even if you done believe it, really tell yourself you can do it (it's all in the mind) and don't forget the old 'I can have it tomorrow', that one works too. Good luck
@vivien: I don't think of it as a 'diet'. This isn't a way of life that I am only going to do for a while until I lose the weight. This is for keeps. It's not just about losing weight, it's also about all the other important health benefits. The longer I do it, the easier it gets. We can do it!
Thanks to all of you for your advice and support.
I'm in today, feeling hopeful
I have also increased my exercise levels, from zero to some, which it hope will help with toning. @Pariah I ideally want to lose 17lb, not sure what that will do to my BMI. I'm 5'10" so my numbers always look better to other people than they do to me!
You are all brill, thanks

how's it been today @Effie , you still on track?
Thanks For asking @justdee
It has gone really well. I got big tummy rumbles around 4:30 but I put my trainers on and headed out for 4.5 mile trot to keep me away from the snack cupboard (I have three teenagers so the cupboards are always well stocked) then had a yummy bean salad and feta.
Grand plans for a productive evening of marking came to nothing after I had a shower because I seem to have just had a two hour nap! Fast days always did end sooner than normal
Just going to have a final cup of tea, can't wait for morning and breakfast
