General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Our very own @wildmissus Is reading it at this very moment, watch this space she may report back. :clover: :clover:
It isn't available in the USA yet, but I think I will read it. I didn't buy into all the 5:2 recipe books, because I don't like cooking for fast days. I prefer to have a quick soup or salad. But I am interested in this book because I haven't quite mastered 5:2. I've been stuck on a plateau forever and remain overweight. I continue to fast on my two days, and have kept 25 lbs off for a year, which is great! BUT I could use some help on my other days to get down into a normal weight range. I know I eat too much junk on my 5 days, so any support or Mediterranean ideas or whatever seems of interest to me. I'll swear off the diet books when I've reached goal!
I also feel quite strongly that the weight loss 'industry' makes shedloads of money out of something that causes thousands of people untold misery and heartache; in the past I've done WW, Slimming World, blah blah, and never lost weight and kept it off and/or dealt with the reasons why I overate in the first place. This (as Ballerina said above) is why I think this is refreshing - because it has given me the tools to get to a healthy weight for the first time in my life and know that I can stay there, without having to buy loads of products or do certain diets (a la WW) that are not exactly good for you and perpetuate the idea that 'dieting' is good whilst earning the companies oodles of money. Plus I think diet books are so boring, quite frankly. If I sound cynical, hey ho.
While I've just started my 5:2 journey, I agree heartily that this WOE has inspired me to try again. As y'all can see my BMI, you know I've been flirting with being "obese." Really, I'd given up that I'd ever find a way to reduce to a lower weight and maintain it, and had just been getting comfortable with who and where I was.

I have read and "done"...crash diet, Atkins, the Zone, gluten free, food combining...wow, can't even remember all of them! And I am sympathetic to the "no more!" camp. Plain vanilla 5:2 seems to be working for me now; unless and until I hit a snag, staying with that. I really appreciate the help offered on this site; so great!

I haven't eaten junk or fast food in years, plus I'm a vegetarian. But I have been eating a lot more fresh veggies on this WOE, which can't be bad. Does anyone else who fits the "ate healthy for years" description get really irritated by the nearly universal assumption of the naturally skinny types that anyone who's fat must be stuffing their face with junk all day long? Even those who should know better...in any case, I now have hope that I can attain and maintain a lower weight...not too soon for my knees!
I just commented on Mimi's new book elsewhere on this forum. Sorry, I'm new here, and a bit disoriented with all the forum threads!

I'll go back and read all your threads, but I did post that I was alarmed that 5:2 ing seems to be turning into another calorie counting diet.
don't worry, daisysunshine, there are lots of flavors here, you just do what works for you! As I said above, I'm sticking with plain vanilla 5:2 unless/until it doesn't work...
