Great advice from everyone. I'd only like to add to keep drinking lots of water and herbal tea and eat plenty of good, nutritious food. A short break might be what your body needs. Don't despair!

 Thank you all so very much I love you and this forum

Not sure if any of this helps you @wildmissusSending you hugs we will travel together in the back of the train
(lost luggage section) and sorry this is a long rant @carorees Just to make thing clear I've always done long fasting days and OK I have done mostly 4:3 for 9 months having the full 24 hour fasts and eating evening meal only at 6-00pm approx. All my normal eating days turned into 16:8 so the extra fast time again also this evolved into me doing a reduction in my carbs because I also stopped the daily bread from my first day These 2 changes resulting in a vast drop in my carb intake and an absolutely amazing difference in my what was this time year dsevere oedema this alone has made this journey for me worthwhile with the added bonus of a 50lbs weightloss.
During the last few weeks I've been trying at all the "other" less traditional vegetables and actually to my surprise enjoying them so this week has seen me eating far healthier than even before and increasing my fats slightly, resulting in my Monday fast day having so much of these veggies that I could only manage half my chicken breast followed by me doing back2back with Tues. .Wednesday as I said ham salad out, I have been eating far healthier for all my 9 months and last Monday was my back to basics doing 4 days of low calorie way below my TDEE so I just wondered if that is what is wrong I admit I'm hardly getting any exercise at the moment and for the first time I am so cold haven't had any side effecst before.
I better than anyone knows how well I've done and believe me I couldn't be happier along with all the above I haven't had a migraine in that 9 months these used to put me to bed for 2 days at a time being violently sick for that time.
You'd have thought xmas alone was enough to confuse my body into letting go of the fat
( of which there's plenty to go at)
So maybe one week of back to basics fasting wasn't enough I will probably take this week and see just what happens I can live in hope.
PS yes I did forget that one my liquids have dropped
of big time.

Hi Sue,

First I want to compliment you on the progress you have made so far. To maintain losing at over 1 lb/week for this long is fantastic!

I have been at roughly the same level for the past 3 months. I decided to take the week off between Christmas and New Years. I think it really helped me start back with a renewed motivation. I even finally started upping my activity which I'd been promising myself to do all winter.

I hope this break works for you too. As others have stated, keep the posts coming! We need you.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you and send hugs and chortles to you to cheer you on your ways as you do for all of us....chin up xxxxxxx

@Sue.Q, it definitely helps knowing that some of us hardened fasters have lost our way.....but are still determined to keep going.

As usual the advice on here is excellent.

Looking at what you eat I think having some time out will be a good thing but please don't stress if you put weight on.

I don't think for one minute that I am suffering from the famine effect but I think I have reached a set point.

I bought myself some nice bread whilst out - a cranberry and pumpkin seed loaf and a Swiss style raisin and muesli loaf. I'm going to slice them up and put them in the freezer. I'm not working the next couple of days so I'm going to make lots of soup for the freezer. So for lunch I'll be having homemade soup and toast with butter. Then for dinner I'll mostly be having something from the Hairy Dieters Recipe books. If I really need to snack I'll have cheese or almonds. My eating window will start at about 1pm until about 7pm with a glass of milk at about 9pm. I'm good at making plans, now I need to make sure I've got the willpower!

Good luck with your plans and keep posting. I'll be thinking about you and watching to see how you get on.

PS. I am also not exercising at the moment other than walking to and from work.

Enjoy your 'time away' Sue!
I've lost my way a bit,(see my progress tracker...) so it is interesting to read about you and Wildmissus. I'm having no problem with doing the fast days as normal, it is just going horribly wrong on normal days. Reading this thread has reminded me about the importance of drinking plenty; I'm not, so I'll increase that and see if it helps.
Good luck!

Hello Sue
Have a break but don't go too far! I am also stuck at the moment after Christmas & it is frustrating particularly with wanting to get our weight moving at the beginning of the New Year. You have done so well & know how to do all this & a short break may be what your body needs. So try mixing up your eating days with different types of food to confuse your body a little & try to stay within your TDEE but don't get stressed if you go over. You may have been eating too little & that is why you have felt cold so homemade soup could fill you & warm you up. Do let us know how you are getting on & try not to worry. Thinking of you

Ahh sue..its all part of 5:2's rich tapestry!Ups n downs!
Nothing can take away the success youve already had and we all know you will succeed even more,but..Sometimes plans go slightly awry..
for instance, today i hoped to make it my first 4:3 week..did it happen..No..I was awake all night and ate a massive bowl of muesli for a very early brekky...coz i felt so tired and y'know how you think food will buck you up..
Was full up til just now when i ate two buttered hot cross buns
Have decided its first day of a new month tomorrow..a fresh start
Well we get a fresh start every day really,so not to worry!
Your Normal Service WILL be resumed, i have every faith in you! X

Hugs and good wishes from me to you, @SueQ, and @Wildmissus. This is coming from the rubbish maintaineer who gained nearly a stone between October and the start of January!

SueQ, wasn't it you who was going for very long walks on fast days? Are you keeping that up or has this truly horrible weather stopped that from happening? If, so is there is something else that you could do which isn't weather dependant?

I also wonder if you may be eating well under your TDEE which is making your body want to hold onto every gram of fat in case of famine! When you've had your week's splurge, (enjoy every minute of it, please!) perhaps you could cast your mind back to what you did when you began this WOE and get back to those basics.

I believe that sometimes we can try too hard to be 'good', when sometimes we just need to let our hair down! I can't imagine ever choosing a salad when I'm out for dinner, let alone a small glass of wine!

I'm sure that with the support of everyone on this forum that you and wildmissus will both be back on track very soon. :clover: Valerie

Add me to the camp who thinks sometimes a break is totally necessary!!!

I would call a good break one where I eat when I'm hungry, trying to be moderate and eat mostly healthy things, and eating until I'm just satisfied, not stuffed. I'm actually taking a 1 week break right now as I recover from gastroenteritis and a cold.

I find these breaks to be a great way to remotivate myself. It's good to be kind to oneself!
