It's always interesting for me to read the views of mothers on here. I am really bad about calling my mom (what can I say: I'm just not a phone person). I am the one who visits, though (it's been 20 years since my Mom visited me, even worse for other family members!) I really should call or send a card for US mothers' day when it arrives, shouldn't I?

I must say I am so sorry I posted my personal story about Mother's Day - I have now ruined it for all the lovely stories and pics on here.

Please forgive me, I was being very selfish.

@Maggiee please don't apologise for what you wrote. You are not selfish just a mother in need of some recognition. I hope I didn't offend you with what I said, I'm sure your children are lovely, I just felt bad for you that they aren't the sort to acknowledge Mother's Day. I know many people find it far too commercial maybe this is how they feel.

@Maggiee I think you come across as a lovely person. Am sure you were and are a great mum too. Why don't you treat yourself each Mothers Day for being that good mum. I always make sure I spoil myself around special events if there is something I am after. It is commercial but it is nice to be acknowledged. Acknowledge yourself you are worth it

We don't really 'do' Mother's day either. I'm very close to my son, but know that my DiL's family take priority over me and I'm cool with that. It enables us to go away and do our own thing, which we did!

Here's one hub took of me on Saturday. I don't take a good photo, but this is me, warts an' all!!

When I was a young adult , newly married and starting out on my career I sometimes forgot Mother's day. As it happens all three of mine did acknowledge the day yesterday - they all live away from home - but that is not always the case and I accept that what goes around comes around. I expect they will take more notice when and if they have children of their own.I know thwy love me all the time and that is what counts.

@Maggiee no no no you werent being selfish..or if you were,so are we all when we have a moan about the bad day we just had, and how difficult we are finding life. Lots of us have logged in to " whinge when we' ve binged"
Thats what we have made this place..somewhere we can come in safety and get stuff off our chests, knowing we won't be judged..we' ll just be heard and receive some TLC and lots of support.
I like what @gillymarysuggested..treat yourself,x x
you were blessed to become a mum, and your children were blessed to have you as their mum, so celebrate it and honour the day
Family dynamics fluctuate over the years, good times and bad times, and i hope things change for the better within yr family some day soon xxxx

Sending you a belated Mother's Day hug @Maggiee.

You weren't being at all selfish. Mother's Day is poignant for a whole host of reasons, & it is natural to take stock a bit. I was on the phone to my best friend today & she reported that her house looked like a florist's shop......whereupon I harrumphed loudly (on account of my MD presents being 2 baking tins & 2 pairs of walking socks.......

And I burned my face cooking a slap up roast for both Mothers......don't ask!

The older I get, the more I subscribe to the phrase "Friends welcome, relatives by appointment!" If we don't get what we need from our rellies.....we should jolly well surround ourselves with wonderful friends!

I have also come round to the idea of treating myself to a little something on birthdays & at Christmas etc - so I totally agree with the previous post about doing just that.

Maggiee.....you are sooooo worth it! Xx
