first shown August 6 2012.. and countless times after around the world .including in Australia on SBS where I am.

This forum started not long after (thanks @Moogie) so with 3 years up our sleeve..

How would you describe how that program impacted on you, how you changed things to suit your lifestyle or person and whether you would recommend intermittent fasting to anyone either over their healthy weight and needs to reduce weight or is interested in good health and longevity.

Did it positively affect not just you but family and friends around you and roughly how many do you know who have had a positive outcome just because you introduced them to it.

Love to hear what you final conclusion post x years is after your real experience with it.
Great idea for a thread @Juliana.Rivers. I shall think about it and come back. In brief though: 41kg lost in 18 months, and still gone nearly 18 months later. :victory:
Great Juliana, I'll be back soon too - prepping for a dinner party
Edit:
I never saw MM's doc back then but I heard of fasting through the Director of a UK health charity, he still fasts today.
Following a knee injury/oncoming arthritis in 2012 I was fed up with the constant pain. I weighed myself December 2013  Having never been on a diet before, I immediately researched the web for weight loss strategies .... and found Moogie's blog, bingo. I lost 23lbs over a year and now maintaining 9 months with 52. Within months of fasting the pain in the knee disappeared, it was a joyous moment! 52 is now my happy way of living. Couldn't imagine life to be otherwise.
Great idea.
12 kg lost in 3 months (show was on Dutch TV July 2013). After that now almost 2 years in maintenance, never leaving the 2 kg maintenance range, using fast days traditional style when needed. Infected 10 other people that I know of, about 5 of them are really succesful. Others felt it was too difficult.
Started in Aug 2013 at 77.5kg. Before that I had lost 5kg with a personal trainer, slowly over two years, but once I started fasting it went much quicker. By Christmas 2013 I weighted 70kg (thanks to the Christmas challenge) and started maintaining. It took me a while to give up fasting so got down to around 67-67.5kg in early 2014. To make it manageable I have settled on a range of 66.5-68.5kg. If I weigh in above 68.5kg I skip breakfast/lunch that day, otherwise only mindful eating. My clothes size has gone from a tight fitting (Australian) size 14, to a size 10 for pants, skirts and dresses. I am tall so sometimes need larger sizes for tops for the sleeves to be long enough. I exercise three times a week (HIIT) and cycle/walk/run as much as possible.
Several colleagues have trialled it but only two have stuck with it. My OH is good at fasting twice a week but overeats on other days so weight doesn't shift.
50lbs in 9 months and still off over 1.5 years later. Plus I met all you lovely, positive, encouraging people!!
80kg down to 69kg but wandered back up to 76.7kg today :0@
I've learned such a lot about food and eating and health and awareness that it's certainly been worth the journey.
MM still looks good on it too!
Brilliant topic as it is so encouraging to those of us who have recently started intermittent fasting to follow up on the people who started 5:2 some time ago - many when it originated. Reading through the posts there is a wealth of information about the various forms of intermittent fasting and the 'ups and downs' individuals experience which makes it all more realistic.
After seeing something on the internet and a link to a radio interview with Dr. Mosely, I was able to track down a link to his BBC program, and I just started the next day. Over the previous 2.5 years, I had reduced my weight from 178 or so to 158. It was slow, torturous, and I was afraid I was not going to be able to maintain my loss, much less continue to lose! Also, I was looking at borderline high cholesterol and pre-diabetes--the outlook wasn't pretty!
I found the forum and all the information, support and wisdom offered. So on March 21, I weighed in at 158.4 lbs. and began. It was not that difficult! On March 28, 2014, about one year later, I weighed in at 133 lbs and switched to Maintenance. Since then, I have mostly bounced around between 133 and 138. I would like to get back to more regular fasting and try to get down in the 130 range. At 67 years old, it seems like it will be a fairly good spot to take a stand!
5:2 along with Zumba have made a huge change in my life. I've shed years along with the pounds. Shopping is fun--US Size 6 rather than 14 makes it fun. My cholesterol and blood sugar numbers are greatly improved. I feel great. When people ask how I did it, I tell them. I've had more takers for the Zumba than the fasting--I don't really know why. :?: Fasting is not that tough! It is something I plan on doing for the rest of my life. :?:
I have done some 6:1, 4:3, 16:8 and tweaks, but the plain old 5:2 is what I always come back to. Nuts for breakfast, soup or salad for lunch, and fish or meat, salad, veg for dinner on fast days along with eating clean and healthy on non-fast days is what seems to suit me best. Uncomplicated, that's me!

haha i love your term "infected"

its very catchy isnt is this 5:2 bug.

im evangelising subtely through some food/garden groups ive joing in facebook. i slip in the word fast day, 5:2 , light day and mindful eating wherever I can and occasionally people ask me in a comment then I go into the spiel. I always put in a link to this site.

I am frequently posting my fast day meal ideas in there. It's working a charm I have many looking at the idea. Or some who have jumped off the 5:2 wagon but climbing back up.
After been given information on 5-2 and watching the program in 2013, decided to give it try knowing my weight was making me unhappy. Started off at 183 10 months later down to 156, also my OH started fasting too. Both of us still fast on maintance, it's just routine now for us. We do relax if we go on vacations but get back into it when we return. Since this way of life style we don't get colds as often, feel generally better in ourselves, not bad as we are in our fifties. 5-2 does and still works, so glad I had the forum to help and guide me.

@Jaclee 5:2 definitely does work. it does different things to different people but it works. or does no harm I say.
