Struggled with my second week
14 Feb 2013, 14:48
I had a really brilliant, easy first week and lost 4lbs...so pleased with myself...but found this second week alot harder...wanted to eat more and struggled with my fast days, going over on them both...

I'm still struggling with my old fat ways...even though now my body wants to eat less and gets full quicker...my head is telling me to carry on eating...I'm hopeing eventually my brain will catch up with my body and work in sync together an now wouldn't that be an amazing thing!

Considered for a while today finishing with it, but where would that leave me, no where else to turn to get the weight off...thankfully I have an amazingly supportive boyfriend who reminded me it's not just about loosing the weight its about getting healthy aswell, and he's right the weight will come off in time if I keep going with it, but it'll just take time...I always want a quick fix to every problem...time to change how I think
Hang on in there! I know how you feel. I LOVE my food and love cooking. My head too keeps telling me to eat, but I just go and do something like call/text someone or listen to music.

I'm doing this fasting not for weight loss but for a healthier mind and body. We have a history of heart disease in my family - mum's had triple by-pass and dad's had a stroke. I feel that this 5:2 way of eating works for me. I'm NOT a calorie counter and never have been, so working out 500 calorie meals is a bit of a chore.
Ooh do stay with it and everyone here will support you. Bala is so right about those health benefits and this is so much more than a slimming diet. If Caro gets that fortnightly/monthly board weigh in sorted out you are bound to see progress too.
crystaltips, if you are struggling with your fast days, maybe look at ways to have more filling food for fewer calories? There are some great ideas on the recipe board.

I am finding I am getting too full to eat all of my one fast day meal. How are you eating your cals? If you are trying to spread them out over the day, why not try not eating until the evening. Many, many people find this easier. Or, if you are doing this already and it is not working for you, try splitting the calories into breakfast and dinner. It is important to experiment and find the best way to deal with fast days for YOU.

If you go over the calorie limit by a bit on a fast day it's not a big deal. Some fast days will be easy so on those days, reduce your calorie intake below the 500; other days will be hard so allow yourself a little more if necessary. Keep it flexible!
Oh, crystaltips. I could so easily have written that myself. Look at my chart - down up down up down! I'm not giving up so don't you give up.

I've kind of lost sight of the health benefits and become obsessed about the food and weight side of it, so my mindset does need to change. Be honest with yourself - how long did take to put the weight on? Accept it will take a while to come off and that this is a new way of eating/life whether the weight comes off straight away or not.

I was really disheartened before I joined the forum but feel so much better with everyone's support. Most of us are in the same boat after all.

I fast on a Monday and Thursday and weigh myself on a Monday but I'm going to change this to a Friday for a psychological boost. I think it will help me weighing myself when I have minimal food on board and if I overeat at the weekend then I have the whole week to claw it back. I think this is my 6th week and I'm still tweaking the way I'm doing it.

Please don't give up you'll only let yourself down.
Thanks everyone for your support it's much appreciated :)

Thinking about it all now, I think I just wanted to get the weight off as quickly as possible, but like you say Wildmissus, it took me nearly twenty years to put it on so it would be stupid of me to think I could loose it quickly

I thought long and hard about it all yesterday and I'm 'tweaking' things to suit my lifestyle, my fast days will be mondays and thursday with my weigh day friday

I've had a cold this week which makes me very grumpy and want to eat more, so should feel more like dieting when this is gone...also going to have an injection in both my knees on tuesday :( not looking forward to that! but hopefully after that I will be able to do some exercising aswell...so I'm going into this third week with a more positive outlook

Bala5057...you deffinitely need to stick with this diet for your health with your family history, so good luck
Make sure your 500 cals are made up of predominantly protein and steamed low GI veg then you shouldn't feel hungry. Also, are you sticking to the same two days each week? Perhaps you could try varying them slightly. Because of work I find that one week I do the 2x12 hrs as per the book but then occasionally I have to do 2pm to 8am 16hr fast.
