Funny isn't it? My OH is both a nurse, and a fitness instructor and he is incredibly supportive having read the book. We saw the program last year and didn't really take it in at the time, but having read more since, we both have embraced this after I have spent years trying, and failing at various calorie restricted and therefore, miserable diets.
It is early days for this foodie, but it 'feels' right, so we shall see!

When I started 5:2ing I told no one including OH. But one fast day he made me lunch at which point I told him all about it, science and all but he was really critical of it all.

Many years ago he used to be a serious weight trainer, entering competitions, so (like most men!) he thinks he knows it all  . That evening I eventually found the Horizon programme online and we both watched it. Well, he didn't believe a word I said but was totally convinced by Dr Moseley!!

He immediately announced that he would be 5:2ing with me. Great I thought but he is a pain. On fast days he relies on me to tell in what he can eat, he constantly talks about food and keeps telling me he is starving!!! Its all about him . It is good really because he is the type of person who when he decides to do something will stick to it which will keep me going.

My work colleague is highly critical of dieting including fasting when we chatted about it before I started but she often misses lunches as she not hungry - mmm, isn't that fasting! She will eventually notice my weight loss and be quite jealous then I'll tell her what I've been doing.

I haven't told anyone what I'm doing because I reckon what I do/don't put in my mouth is nobody's business but my own. People will always have an opinion, especially with an activity as emotive and vital as eating and I simply can't be arsed justifying my decision to fast three days a week when I get the shock/horror response. I did a 28-day supervised juice fast a couple of years ago for health reasons and my family/friends and even complete strangers did everything in their power to persuade, force and/or frighten me into stopping. Absolutely exhausting. So now I just get on with it and if anyone asks me why I'm not having breakfast, lunch or dinner I simply say I'm not hungry (they give me funny looks which I ignore!).

I haven't really discussed it. As I have mentioned on another tread my children haven't noticed. My OH knows but is not participating due to being very slim.

Work colleagues haven't noticed, I work with a bunch of men so they have no idea and my friends wouldn't comment anyway...

I haven't told anyone but my hubby, and he's joined me too.

At work I just tell them I'm having a 'detox day' and no-one bats an eyelid.

Part of me is concerned about unwanted criticism, and part of me is worried that the pressure to succeed would just make me fail.

So, no talkie, no pressure! :D

If they say "Just eat less" you can say "I am!" It's just that you're doing it on a week by week basis instead of a meal by meal basis.

IF I mention it to anyone, depending on the immediate response : "Really, I've heard something about that, what is it?", or, "Oh really?", then I either shut of or ramble on. Hopefully, when you can see a difference, they may get interested. Mind you, my work uniford is ugly and shapeless so the comments may be a long time coming!

Unfortnately, I cannot keep my mouth shut on the subject whilst sat with friends at lunchtime. I'm so full of enthusiasm for this diet that if I'm not careful I could find myself "cast out". Please feel free to remind me to "zip it" until such times that people start noticing the weight loss.

It is only really just beginning to get media attention here in Australia and we won't be getting the Horizon show until later in the year. I found it online after a friend from London lost 10lbs since Christmas. The people I have told about it have bern generally interested and one of my friends is also trying it. Pleased I found these forums.

The only person who knows I am doing it is my hubby. Like others have mentioned, I just can't be bothered justifying myself to folk all the time!

It was actually brought up on our local radio station a couple of weeks back and so many people phoned in and messaged saying the usual ("just eat healthy and exercise, its not hard to understand" blah blah blah lol).

Once people see how well I am doing and ask I won't lie, but I'm not broadcasting it right now. I am loving it though!

And ..... totally wrong of me I know... but I quite like this little secret I have. I'm sick of being the one who fails every time a few of us decide to lose weight. So it's like my little secret that works and I don't want everyone else to know. Selfish I know but love that this is working and want to keep it to myself LOL.

Hi Pilchards, I'm in Aus too and I saw it last year over here in Tas as well as some of the other Horizon programs. I haven't seen any publicity on 5:2 here, but picked up the info from the BBC.

There hasn't been any publicity out here in Canada as well, despite the popularity of intermittent fasting. I'll most likely keep to my WOE under wraps until the weight loss is noticeable and/or if anyone asks. My mother and relatives atm fast regularly on Mondays and Thursdays as is, until dinner and eat normally there-after, so it wouldn't be a shock for her/them to learn of my new found interest in restricting these days.

I like the whole under-cover aspect of my regime lol, no need to divulge my secrets just yet haha

I haven't told anyone at work, more because I don't feel like I need to explain it to anyone. The only thing people might notice is that I'm not taking milk in my coffee on down days.

It's different at my wife's workplace, where there's a whole group of them fasting, and everyone is aware.
