My OH (wife) is nearing her goal weight, but wants to carry on with a maintenance routine for health reasons...

But would her moving up to 600 cals daily (rather than 500) work? Particularly as she exercises heavily on the two fast days (1000+ cal burning sessions). The advantage of this is we can then both have the same meals. However, the advice I've seen is to move to 6:1.

Just wondering what everyone's thoughts and advice are?
I think increasing fast day cals is fine as long as she is getting a good long time with no calories on the fast days. I think that one of Dr M's experts does 24 hour fasts and then eats a normal dinner...

2000 * 5 + 2 * 500 = 11000 / 7 = 1571 per day
2000 * 5 + 2 * 600 = 11200 / 7 = 1600 per day

2000 * 6 + 500 = 12500 / 7 = 1785 per day

so going to 6:1 is a more significant change than adding 20% on fast days.
Another way to look at it is, how quickly is her weight still dropping? If fast then clearly a bigger change is needed, if slowly, then a small change is likely to be enough to prevent further loss.
Caroline & PhilT,

That's great advice. Thanks guys!
I'm at my goal weight - have been since before Christmas.
I still fast two days a week for 24 hours because its got health benefits and I like it and I'm used to it.
I just relax a bit about the size of my meals during the week.
When my husband gets to his goal weight we may rethink, but the 24 hour fasts are here to stay.
Hi Talkinpeace,

"I still fast two days... ...I just relax a bit about the size of my meals during the week."

My OH thinks this is a great idea! :-)
