Unquenchable thirst
19 Feb 2013, 18:46
Hi

My fasts are going really well. However I am very very thirsty. No amount of water will quench my thirst and I am not even popping to the loo all day because of all the water.

Can anyone share the same experience or have any understanding of why this may happen?

Cheers

Are you doing any sort of intensive exercises through-out the day or remotely active?

Are you drinking a lot more tea and/or coffee than usual, they tend to be dehydrating as well I believe.

Or maybe you're just mistaken you hunger cues for thirst...since you're not eating as much

Just my guesses, but there's no harm in drinking water in any case

If you are not having to go to the loo frequently, then its probably nothing to worry about. However, taking on all that water could result in your weight being apparently higher when you weigh in. It may be related to what you are eating before the fast or during..could you give us an idea of what you've been eating/drinking?

I saw on various fasting sites that excessive thirst is not unusual.

I have noticed the very same thing since starting. I also notice that my rings are a bit more difficult to get off in the morning, and later in the day they are rolling around my finger.
Apart from my under active thyroid I'm generally healthy.
I have regular check ups since my cancer treatment. My blood work has been normal every time. It has been done every 2 months up until now.
My next bloods will be in April and they will be the first ones since starting 5:2.

I drink about 2 cups or coffee or tea per day. The same on fast days. I don't do any exercise on fast days....yet! And so far I eat fresh soups or veg juice during the day. Or I just don't have anything at all as I find I am not that hungry anyway.

I have a really good diet generally - with one or two junk meals during the week like pizza. I am a cheese and carb person so have a low sugar diet on the whole and eat ample amount of cheese to make up for it!

I will keep an eye on it, perhaps it will ease off after a while.

Yes - I've noticed a few times when I've felt very very thirsty. Just assumed its the body adjusting to changed food intake. I really like sparkling water with a slice of lime.
