Wow TracE ! 3 pounds for a slow loser is ACE ! Hope I do as well..just avoiding the scales for now so I don't get discouraged. And sarahb, that's amazing !

I've seen a few posters on here saying that they lose a lot and then sometimes gain a little back, so I might weigh myself after 3 or 4 weeks to get a better reading.

Well done, and keep on keeping on !!
Well ladies of a similar age this way of eating works. I'm 45, 5'8", apple shaped, started at 13st 9lb at the beginning of the year and am now 12st 9lb. It did take about a month to really get into it so persevere. If you look at my progress chart I did put weight on a couple of times. Like many of you I've tried quite a few diets. The last one was a couple of years ago at Slimming World and I painfully lost half a pound a week, got down to 12st 4lb and put all the weight back on. I just wanted to stop dieting and I finally feel that I have. Good luck.
It is so encouraging to read comments from people in the same boat. I'm sure my metabolism is shot to hell as , like everyone else, the weight doesn't shift and when it does it is sooooooo slow. Jumps on really quickly though as though you can breathe in calories!
I haven' t had weighing scales for years and was shocked when I did weigh myself and found I was obese on the BMI (hate that thing)
My 5:2 journey is showing a slow decrease in weight , 3 kg over 2 months at the last weigh in. I weigh monthly, first Sunday of the month and I measure. The measurements are so much more satisfying with big numbers lost. Okay, I measure nearly everywhere and add it all up, but it feels good to see a big centimetre number rather than a low pounds/kilo number.
On my 16th fast this year and tape measure day is next Sunday.
Unsure how it will be as I have been living off hotel buffet for 2 weeks and the choice was poor for veggie except for the pudding! It would have been rude not to, although I did keep up the fasts!
yes, I agree it does work. I'm finding that the weight is coming off in a slightly different "order" compared to when I last tried to lose weight. I am losing weight from round my middle but relatively slowly :) .

Sill its all good and can have treats on the "normal" eating days so much more sustainable for me than having to be good all the time .
Well, today's the first of my two fast days this week, so I thought I'd post a message from the front, so to speak!

I've only been following the Fast Diet a few weeks, but here are a few things I'm finding out. It gets easier - my second week, both days, ended in a rush for cheese on toast ... but not any more! I find it helps to think of fast days as repair days. Other people have commented that it helps to keep active, and I've found that to be true for me. I am pretty careful about weighing things, then using the calorie lists at the back of the book. I keep a diary of what I ate and how I felt. I do find it a huge psychological help to think that I only have to deal with one day at a time. And I don't find I overeat particularly on 'feast days'. Today I've had two boiled eggs and spinach, some chopped apple and carrot with low-calorie dressing, and for supper, plaice fillets with carrots and green beans. Actually, I tend to eat the same things every fast day, though I know not everyone can put up with this. For me, it saves thinking more than I have to about food. Flavourings like pepper and lemon juice help a lot(I'm usually a big butter and olive oil fan).

Greetings to everyone on the same journey, and keep posting!
Well, I've now been doing this for 4 weeks and I have lost 4 pounds ! This may not sound like much to most people but I'm very encouraged indeed. Usually it takes me about 8-10 weeks to lose 4 pounds, so for me this is a very good result. I usually lose next to nothing. If I could lose between 2-4 pounds EVERY month, then I would be delighted.

I have found the diet quite straight forward, on a fast day I skip breakfast and lunch and save most of my calories for a large-ish tea, usually some kind of stir fry as I feel I get more food for the calories. I have a tea with skimmed milk at breakfast and before bed and the rest of the time drink hot or cold water. On a couple of the weeks I had an additional low calorie day, a kind of fast day false start, where I set out to have 500 calories but ended up having more like 850 because I was eating at other people's houses and didn't want to say what I was doing. The rest of the days when I ate what I wanted, MFP recorded calories from between 1400 and around 2200.

On my other diets the most i ever lose is about 4 pounds, so to see if this is really going to work for me then I need to lose more weight over the coming 4 weeks and not stick like I usually do. But at least for now the signs are encouraging.

Hope it's going well for everyone else !
Great News! Glad that this is working for you. Hope you've found it easy enough that you feel you can keep going for a few more months. Lots of other people (myself included) who have failed at other diets are finally getting results with 5:2!
Keep us posted on your next weigh-ins :)
Thanks, I will probably weigh-in fortnightly and I'm going to stick with it. I'm on a fast day today and having a big prawn and vegetable stir fry tonight which I am really looking forward to.
Well done I'm so glad it's working for you.Similar to TracE I started out at 5ft 8inches and 14 st 2lb. I'm now down to 13st 1lb and can't wait to be 12 st something! It will be soon.
I too believe in real food so eat lots of home made meals, have butter if I want it and home made cakes. But on fast days I'm as good as gold and find it very easy. I think you have to shake off the dieters mentality a bit and enjoy your feast days without guilt.
Forgot to say that I'm in my late fifties
Well done Dustwitch - i too have lost 4lb's in 4 weeks :) and am well happy like you though i keep thinking its going to grind to a halt any minute so need to see how i go over next few weeks. I'm sure i'm worrying uneccesarily and will be proved wrong!

Well done Gillb your weightloss is brilliant x
TracE, that's great ! well done, and yes Gillb that's a massive achievement.

This way of eating might just be the answer for all of us who have had very limited success on conventional diet regimes.

I will keep checking in from time to time to update my progress and see how everyone else is doing !
Hi there

Just wanted to add that I too am 45 in June this year, 5ft4, and have also been dieting unsuccessfully since my 20's!
I've also gained weight over the years, slowly lost a couple of pounds here and there with various diets (WW, SW high protein/low carb) and then put on more in the aftermath - familiar story right??
I find food restriction on a daily basis really tedious and unattainable, but also want to lose weight and gain proper health benefits so this WOE really appeals to me.
So, I started three weeks ago at 11st 8lb and have been amazed with the results! Not only the weight loss but how easy short bursts of will power are to handle and the best thing for me has been how the 'white noise' (can't think of a better way to describe it unfortunately) of food on my non-fast days is starting to disappear. The constant battle of making the 'right' food choice (and then inevitably making the 'wrong' one!) is lessening and I find I'm listening to my body rather than my mind if that makes sense?

Happy Fasting to all of you and have a lovely weekend.

Great to hear it is working for everyone. I am still waiting for my weight to drop to a number with an 11 at the front but I am pleased with what I have lost and how I feel.
That is brilliant Dusty Witch!

Hope it keeps going well, are you still eating a bit more Fat?
I have ditched the idea of low fat eating and am eating things like cheese again, although not in huge quantities, of course. I'm still eating whole grains. I'm also eating plenty of vegetables. I ate healthily before to be honest, but my weight simply would not budge, despite logging everything on my fitness pal.

I think the 500 calorie days may have given my system a jolt. I've hardly been exercising either as I broke my toe and bones in my foot, so it will be interesting to see whether I lose more weight if I combine lots of walking and some fitness dvds now my foot is on the mend.

On the 500 calorie days I'm eating stir fried vegetables with prawns and chicken. I expect that will get tedious after a while, but for now it's easy and filling and healthy.
