Food obsession!
20 Feb 2013, 19:13
Im in my fourth week of IF and its going great, however I find I am becoming more obsessed with food rather than less. Fast days are fine and getting easier but on non-fast days I am eating more 'because I can' to the point where I am planning baking cakes and puddings that I would not normally do. Also, scoffing more the night before a fast day as I wont be able to eat it the next day! I wasnt like this when I first started, has anyone else had this? I do have a raging cold so wondering if that is making it worse? Is it a stage that will pass or do I need councelling???

How much weight have you got to lose, if you don't mind me asking? Are you losing weight?

I think it may well calm down unless you are near your target weight and your body is rebelling about going so low! I expect it's psychological though and will wear off once the novelty of being allowed to eat wears off!

I want to lose about 8 stone so nowhere near target weight. Have lost every week, 8 and a half lbs altogether.
I hope it is just a phase. Fast days I barely think about food so hopefully that will spread to the feed days. Wondered if anyone else was going through this.

I'm sure it is a phase. I would try to think of the fast as starting after your dinner the day before and ending at breakfast the day after. Hopefully that will stop "pre loading" and will help with fast burning during the fat day.

Keep in touch!

You need to start thinking of your intake on a weekly basis rather than by day.
And there are no Feast days. Only normal days.
Think of your week like this :

2 days 500 calories
2 days at your TDEE
2 days within 10% of your TDEE
1 day splurge
record all of your food into MFP : so that you knowwhat you are eating
then you can retrain your brain to start expecting the 'right' amount of food each day
for the rest of your life

Hi - I can relate to this thinking. I have just written about the same experiences on my thread (juliebulie10's 4:3 report)

I initially loved my fast days and didn't really think about food, NOW I'm (well, I say now, but really my mindset is in the process of being adjusted!!) I'm obsessing about food and what I'm going to eat on food days 'because I can'. Totally relate to the 'I know, I'm going to bake a cake' because I can mentality.

I can totally relate to how you are feeling, and it would be good to keep in touch so we can 'chat' to each other to be each others 'counsellor'!! I have had a book recommended to me on my thread which I am just reading the 'synopsis' on amazon and you know what - it could have been me writing this stuff! defo going to have to purchase me thinks!!

Keep going love, and please PLEASE keep in touch :)

WE CAN BEAT THIS!!

Thanks for all the info!
Thanks Juliebulie! I'm so glad I am not the only one! Thought I was going barmy! Deffo keep in touch! Going to keep myself busy on non-fast days so im not thinking about what I can eat (or bake!) next. Also gonna try and think of food weekly rather than daily.
We can do this!!!!
