Spreading the word!
19 Jan 2013, 21:54
Hi all and thanks for joining up - it's great to see our community growing and sharing tips & opinions.

As the forum admin I feel bad about trying to advertise this place myself on other groups and sites, sort of like I'm trying to steal other people's members away. So, I'd like to encourage you to provide a link to this forum to any other sites or groups you feel might be interested. I know a lot of other communities have a single topic or similar dedicated to 5:2, but of course an entire forum system dedicated to the 5:2 lifestyle may be of interest to members on some of these other groups!

Also, I'd love to get a link to this place on the Helpful Links page on the official Fast Diet site:
http://thefastdiet.co.uk/helpful-links/

I've sent a message via their contact form (which seems to have errors from time to time, but it did seem to work for me the other day!) -
http://fastdiet.wpengine.com/let-us-know-how-its-going/

Perhaps if a few more people contact them about it they'll be inclined to include this site due to popular opinion!

Also, I notice a few spammers/bots are getting in and posting their rubbish - my apologies for this. I may have to resort to new users getting their first post approved before it shows up, to allow the staff here to only let through genuine users. I hope it doesn't come to that as I know it can confuse a lot of newbies as to why their posts aren't showing up!

Finally, I'm currently working on a weight/fat/bmi tracker system which will integrate with the forums, allowing you to keep a log of your stats and (hopefully!) view charts/graphs etc. We'll be able to gather some meaningful data forum-wide regarding the success of 5:2 for different age groups, genders, starting BMIs etc. Exciting!

...and with that, back to coding for an hour or so before bed!

Thanks David :)
I've made good progress with the weight tracker this evening and am now getting to grips with the graphing plugin.

Tomorrow it'll be time to prep the data calculations for forum-wide data charts O.O;

Thanks for your work Mariska! I too tried to email thefastdiet.co.uk about this forum but the site just produces error messages - I will keep trying.

And I see what you mean about spammer bots posting rubbish, a couple just appeared in the last few minutes. There are some filters around for phpbb which might help? See https://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtop ... &t=2122696

Thanks dominic - I already run a large phpBB community site so have dealt with this problem before. I was hoping with this being a rather smaller site it wouldn't be an issue, but I guess they get everywhere. We should be able to deal with it better now that users need to have their first post approved by a staff member :)

I apparently managed to get a message through to thefastdiet.co.uk about this forum - through the 'Contact Us' link at the bottom of the page. Hope they put a link up!
