Hi everyone - I'm getting different results. I'm getting 400 with one calculator and 450 with another (obviously once divided by 4). Clearly on fast days every calorie counts - never mind 50. Anyone else have this problem ( I'm only 5 foot hence having to go under the 500 cals)

Everyone can have this problem as there are many predictive formulae for metabolic rate and many assumptions about activity levels. At best they are +/- 10% and perhaps 30% of people fall outside even that range, so it's a fact of life.
The error range in daily TDEE is about a twix worth of calories
I have seen DrM saying stick to 500 on fast days if your TDEE is <2000

I'd say go with the 450 and see how you get on Or split the difference and say 425. Even on 500 it doesn't hurt to go a little over, so if 400 was your ideal, 430 or so wouldn't really matter. Either one is still a significant difference to your normal daily intake
I have moved the thread to frequently asked questions...hope that's OK.
I think that to say you shouldn't go under 500 could result in a fair bit of disappointment as many people whose TDEE is below 2000 will get very very slow weight loss. Do you know why he has recommended that?

I suspect he is concerned about protein intake. On the ABC TV clip he emphasized the importance of getting enough protein on the fast days.
I think the view here has been that not eating any protein for one day is not in itself a problem? Not that anyone is recommending it...

Oh, that might well be why. It does seem to be a bit cautious though, after all one day without 45-65g of protein is hardly going to cause all your muscles to atrophy? And isn't that what autophagy is for anyway to do a bit of dismantling old worn out parts and recycling them into new shiny bits?
Can't say why but it was in response to the same question from a low TDEE person panicking about how few calories they could eat.carorees wrote: I think that to say you shouldn't go under 500 could result in a fair bit of disappointment as many people whose TDEE is below 2000 will get very very slow weight loss. PS Remember Varady uses <30g protein per fast day on ADF studies referenced re protein in http://thefastdiet.co.uk/does-intermitt ... eficiency/
oK Thanks guys. I think Ill stick to 430 and see how I get on but try ensure a good protein intake. I love eggs so shouldn't be too hard
