General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

Hi there can anyone advise - i have a holiday in 9weeks and really would love to lose a stone - would I get better losses with 4:3 do you think?
It depends on you, I think. We're all built a bit differently and this really isn't tested all that much yet. In theory, so long as you're not overcompensating, you might lose more.

Here's the deal, I wouldn't do it too long term. Most any diet will work, the question is whether it's something you can sustain long term. I think 4:3 would be less sustainable long term than 5:2, and that's why I'm personally leery of it (despite the fact I may do it this week -- I'm going to Florida a the end of the month!). So perhaps the fact you have a clear end time in sight might be good :-)
According to Carolines stats here I don't think so..
Have a look...

Ha, ha, snap but more elegantly done...
The progress tracker shows virtually the same average weight loss on 4:3 as 5:2. Probably the 4:3 folk are eating more on feed days but we don't know that!
As long as you have the enthusiasm and determination to be fairly strict with yourself over the next 9 weeks the Maths says that you should be able - just about - to do it.

Assuming you eat only your TDEE on feed days and you are dropping an extra 1500 cals on the extra fast day thats 9x1500= 13500cals. At 3500 cals for a pound of fat you are just shy of 4lbs extra lost. But there are so many variables, you might lose a bit more but you could do less. It's really down to how you feel.4:3 is quite challenging!
