General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

I have researched for ages to try and find a decent set of scales that measures fat as well as weight. I have scoured through the forums here and looked at reviews and now even more confused!
I have discovered that shop bought scales are not necessarily that accurate when measuring fat, but I would like some scales that give me a rough idea. Does anyone happen to know which scales Dr Michael Moseley used?
I would very much appreciate some recommendations as my current scales need replacing.

We have scales branded Rosemary Conley that seem fairly accurate for % fat, got them from John Lewis or Boots ages ago.

I have some Salter ones from Argos, they were about £20 and seem to be consistent, although I don't know how accurate!
I am the same as Moogie, Salter from Argos, the weight is accurate, and the BMI Fat and Hydration %'s all move in the right way! They are a 1/4 of the price of some, and they have a long 5 year guarantee, to my mind anyone putting that on something has to be reasonably sure they will last.
Another Salter user here, measurements seem consistent. I also have a handheld Omron fat analyser and the numbers that pop out of that are in the same region, so overall I'm pretty confident that the Salter scales are accurate. In the same way that a man with two watches never knows the correct time...
Thank you all..I also managed to work out how to thank with the thumb thing I think? I am going to buy the Salter scales tomorrow. I shall keep my old scales for a while in case the new ones show a vast weight discrepancy which would be very disheartening. I will let you know how I got on.

I bought the Tanita ones and they are very good.
The Omron ones that MM uses are on offer at Amazon at the moment. I've put a posting and a link to them in resources. Less than half price!
I just got the Omron BF511 scales (from Amazon £45) and I think they are going to be very helpful. I'm particularly concerned that my husband doesn't lose muscle mass, as he is losing weight more quickly than I am. Also to keep track of our visceral fat. As they arrived mid-morning I will have to wait until tomorrow to do a proper check of our numbers, but from a 'quick peek' it seems that we are both in the normal range for visceral fat, but as expected my body fat is still much too high. Hoping that by the time I get to my target, which is another 5.4 kg, that will be back in the normal range.
Recently bought Salter analyser scales half price (£17.95) from Sainsburys online got them delivered to my local Sainsburys for nothing! Saw the same one's full price in the store when collecting my half price ones?!

They work quite well but strangely I have to make my feet slightly damp in order for the BMI Fat and Water analyser to work properly! :bugeyes:

I bought Lidl's "body analyser" similar to this one (translation) for around £15.
As well as my weight, I also get body fat %, muscle mass % and hydration %, and a suggested caloric intake to bring my fat body back into line!
It has a memory function for 10 people, too!

I don't know how accurate it is, but it gives me a very good idea of any trend, which is what I require.
The lidl one sounds good, I have bought the Salter scales which seem adequate for my needs and I am happy with them. Like most, I just wanted a rough idea of fat%. I do find it disheartening to weight myself and not see any weight loss or indeed weight gain. I would feel much more positive to see fat loss even if I had gained a bit of weight. I must admit to stopping exercise during a previous diet as the muscle I was building weighed more than the fat I was losing so the scales showed no weight loss for a couple of weeks. A tape measure and a rough fat % guide seems to give a clearer picture of what's going on.
I would be wary of the inexpensive ones, I have heard that the measurements can vary wildly. If it is important to you, put the money that you are saving on food towards a good set!
I got an Omron body composition monitor/scales for my birthday on Friday and was horrified to discover that I'm made up of almost 50% fat! :shock: I'll be keeping a close eye on them and hoping that number goes waaaaaay down the longer I stay on 5:2. On the plus side, my visceral fat is normal (just!)
