For one reason or another, could not face the two fast days this week and now feel pretty disappointed with myself! Hope to squeeze in one fast day tomorrow and carry on next week as before. Has anyone else taken a week off?

I haven't so far but I am planning to take the 1st week in April off as we have visitors.
I think the longterm people all have taken time off, particularly at Christmas.
I don't think you should force yourself to fast; it must mean you're not quite in the right place atm.

Thank you for that BBT053. Makes me feel a bit better!
I've been doing the 5:2 since December but in the past three weeks I've had only 2 fasting days and my weight has not changed (which is good, I've been snacking). I've been on annual leave and found it much more difficult to fast when I'm not busy at work. On one of the days I was very busy, hill walking for hours, but on the other I just thought about food all day. I've decided that fasting on my days off is not a good idea. I'm back to work and fasting tomorrow.
Been on 5:2 since 7th January - had a week off at the end of February as was on an all-inclusive holiday in Tenerife, really enjoyed the holiday, and food and drink, but really enjoyed my next two fasting days at home as found I had actually lost just over a pound. Sometimes a little 'rest' is good!
Had one week at 6:1.
I don't think one week is going to undo all your efforts, unless you find it hard to get going again.

This is encouraging to read, thanks.
I like to plan ahead and there are a couple of weeks (not consecutive) in the next month when I will only be able to do 6:1

When I go on holiday I tend to take a break from dieting too. I usually take a low carb approach (which isn't a requirement of the 5:2 diet) but on holiday I eat whatever is going such as cream teas, pasties, fish and chips etc and I eat every day. When the holiday is over I get back on track again starting with the first fast day.
Yes, I had 2 weeks off over xmas. I tried to compensate for the huge meals by skipping one meal a day (breakfast or lunch), on xmas day I only had one (huge) meal but loss of wine! I didn't put any weight on!
I'm just doing 1 fast this week cos of my stinking cold but am skipping breakfast so the average calories will be not too high and I'll get a 16 hour fast overnight. Might not lose any this week but won't gain either.
I intend to just skip breakfast rather than do proper fasts on our summer holiday.
That's the beauty of this WOL, you can bend it to fit your own needs.

The health benefits of calorie restriction/fasting are what keep me going. Plus I feel better overall when I fast. If it gets to be too hard, I will drop to 6:1 and then return to 5:2
I've had this week off but partly due to a migraine and working away from home. It's only my 2nd full week!! Will try and get back to it on Monday. Haven't weighed myself at all since I started on 1st March. Gonna wait a whole months before I step on the scales. Have found that I feel VERY full after eating carbs like bread, and can't manage my usual quantities of food, which is no bad thing. Hope the average weekly calorie consumption is overall less than I'm used to having. Don't feel much different yet, but it's early days...
Have 'got back on the saddle' again today and feel much better for it! Back to 5:2 again next week!
I was away from home on the fourth week of this new WOE for just over a week. Although I wasn't fasting while away, I fasted on the day before we went (Monday) and the day after we returned (Wednesday) In between I found that I wasn't eating everything in sight and, on several occasions, actually stopped eating when I was full, rather than continuing to eat just because there was food there!
I was amazed and delighted and I only gained a quarter of a pound in just over the week! I lost this the following weigh in day (five days later) when my weight fell by a total of two and a quarter pounds.
The whole idea of the WOE is that it is adaptable and sustainable over a long period of time. I have certainly found that my eating habits have changed, although I do have my moments when old habits return!
Good luck and don't give up. You have done nothing wrong, simply adjusted your non-fasting days!

This is my 6th week and for a couple of the early weeks I only managed 1 day, due mostly to not being properly organised. I seem to have had a consistent loss of approx 1lb for all but one week when I didn't lose anything (maybe because I was/am still quite heavy, but still...). Dr M and Mimi both say how flexible this WOE is, so I don't think a week off would do you any damage - your weight may just stay the same. Then you can just start again!
I will be away for the spring break from 3/22-3/30with my 2 granddaughters and my daughter (girl's week.) I will not fast during this time. Have fasted twice and am doing a 24 hour fast beginning 7:30 tonite until 7:30 tomorrow nite. Also plan one more fast on Thursday.I think we must be gentle with ourselves as we try to be healthier.
