General 5:2 and Fasting Chat

I can't claim this as my own but my mum who told me about the 5:2 and has been on it for it for a few weeks saves all her calories for a big evening meal and has something along the lines of chicken breast and veg or stir fry.

Then she has either one of the shape dessert yogurts which are gorgeous or a small pot off yoomoo frozen yogurt which comes in tonnes of tasty flavours (were a dessert family you see).

Another tip she gave me is as she and myself are big black coffee drinkers. She keeps her 'good stuff' for the fast days, cafetiere and fresh ground coffee so it feels like a treat all day :).

Myself, I had yesterday feast day; porridge with skimmed milk a little snack box of raisins and all spice for breakfast
Lunch was then half a pouch of micro tilde butternut squash and brown rice with feta and a couple of rivita and a yog.
(healthy huh).. then boyfiend came home with pizza, chips and garlic mayo for tea.

Today I am trying to stick to just having one meal so black coffee and then a big feta and beetroot salad and maybe a mini milk :).

Thank god its my fast day today!
hi
normal for me is usually breakfast of 2pks of quaker oats with some free from coconut milk

lunch varies from soup to ham/chicken/prawn salad or sandwich

snacks mostly tend to be fruit pear, banana, nectarine etc i'm not really a chocolate person but if i do have some i only have a few squares - my downfall is winegume, jelly beans or crisps but i try noit to buy them but when my brother gives me a packet its rude to say no :-)

evening meals normally chicken, lamb or beef (hubby likes his red meat) a load of salad or veg, and some rice pasta or spud
i tend to cook international food as English doest really do it for me so we have a lot of italian, indian thai mexican inspired meals

weekends include a pub lunch and a few beer or cider on asaturdaay night and so far i have lost almost a stone

i find it hard to eat my tdee and seem to average around 75-90% tdee on feeddays and around 25-30% on fast days

Fast days i am building up to keeping all cals for evening meal so am just having maybe a piece of fruit or some almonds and miso soup for lunch
evenings have varied from 3 egg omlettes with mushroom, tomatoe, courgetttes to prawn stir frys, quorn shepherds pie, and last night was quorn steak and cauli cheese with salad

Belindab, I checked out your food blog and it's right up my street! Absolutely scrumptious, and I love the photographs. Hope your 0H is making a good recovery.
My fast days consist of putting off eating a long as possible, although I cannot go without milk in my tea and I usually have a few cuppas before evening, then I have salmon, steamed with vegetables and to give it a bit of oomph I like to add fresh ginger, garlic maybe a few chillis and marinade the salmon(or chicken) in this before cooking. I find very bland flavours a disappointment on fast days. Still having a problem feeling very alert after fasting so reserve some calories for a drink of oatly before bed, which seems to help a bit.
Thanks everyone for your replies. I will look at all your blogs and take note. I know what I need to do, relax more on feed days. So tonight is Kebab night, plenty of calories

Link to my blog. I'll be doing this week's update over the weekend, which includes a 3 course meal for under 200 cals!
Fast day today, ive eaten...
porridge made with water -150cals,
M&S ready meal chow mein -285cals
Babybell light -42cals

I find that its easier to eat breakfast and fast all day until the evening and then have a small meal otherwise i go mad about midday and want to eat everything, also find having a late breakfast, say around 11-11.30 helps too.

On feast days im trying to still try and be relatively healthy, dont get me wrong i enjoy treats but im trying not to over indulge...eaten lately on feast day...
Porridge with grated apple, almonds & sultanas
Cheese and onion bagel with 4 slices of cheese
cup of tea and 2 half coated digestives
Few truffles and a few bits of fudge (say 4 truffles and 10 fudge) < eaten during the night while at work out of boredom
lamb shank with mustard mash, roast potato and parsnips
glass of coke

Sometimes think i eat far too much on my feast days.
Fast day on a Sunday typically goes something like this:

7-8am Espresso and sparkling water

12pm Oats cooked with water and a handful of blueberries

4/5pm One poached egg, 2 thin slices of smoked salmon, 5 roasted cherry tomatoes and small handful of roasted green beans.

snack / dessert - Half a pink grapefruit.

I usually drink sparkling water throughout the day.

Work day:

7am - Espresso and sparkling water

1pm - M&S Nutty superfood salad (without the dressing) and half a pink grapefruit.

5/6pm - Low fat feta, roasted veg and and tomato bake.

On a typical feast day I'll usually add a yogurt and granola for a mid morning snack and some dried fruit. I'll usually have a hearty dinner and twice a week I eat out (usually Indian or Italian food).
I'm trying to cut refined sugar out of my diet so have a square of 90% dark choc to keep those sugar cravings at bay. For six months I cut out all treats from my diet but realised that wasn't really sustainable long term so now my rule is not to buy cakes, sweets, etc myself but if someone at work brings some in, I'll allow myself one occasionally as a treat.

The 5:2 WOE is helping me kick the diet coke habit. I'll not allow myself any on a fast day as it just makes me hungry. Likewise, no booze on a fast day which means I enjoy the odd glass of wine and a beer all the more on a feast day.

Last year I tried clean eating and eating only super foods which has trained me into some pretty good eating habits and I shed a load of excess weight. However 5 :2 is sustainable long term as I can still eat clean most of the time but not miss out on social events such as eating out with friends.
Today I have had

Breakfast: Porridge with sugar and semi skimmed milk about 380 cals
Lunch: Proper roast beef dinner including normal roasties and sweet potatoes and about 4 different types of veg plus gravy about 740 cals
Tea: Mexican pizza - with 15g ham, 30g mozzarella, sweetcorn, red onion and mushrooms with 2 table spoons of passata on a tortilla about 275 cals
Snacks: Bounty, 12.5g pringles and a yoghurt and a biscuit about 520 cals

1914 cals in total

But according to MFP burned off about 868 cals today as was at the gym for about an hour and a half on top of various household chores!
